Smith's biggest issue has been a couple of really really poorly timed penalties and dropped balls. Discipline basically, and while he hasn't been alone, hes had some of our worst moments in a crowded field.

In general play hes been average, but we've needed more from him given how much he improved last year. He certainly shouldn't realistically be in the frame for Origin.

Yep, he’s a weapon in defence and rock solid in defence…. The entire team has been down, but he’s been one of the shining lights. He’s looked good

To me (it appears) that every few months there's a Penrith Panthers what's up group chat....(which you and I aren't included in) and they decide who to 'hate' on within the team and so it begins.
The voodoo dolls come out. complete with pins. Not unlike what this comedian describes.

I heard he was extremely close to making the game 1 squad.

I fascinated by some of the opinions shared on this site. I think sometimes people over analyse our players, looking for reasons to explain why we are losing.

Liam Martin and Mose Leota usually cop it.

Until about a month ago Tago was copping it big time during club games.......

I find a mixture of amusing and frankly bewildering to be honest.

I didn't get into the 'hate' going on here. I did admit that Tago was down on confidence for a couple of weeks earlier in the year.
Ivan obviously thought the same, and he spent 1 or maybe 2 weeks back in cup.

TBH at that stage most of the team were struggling.

Tago came back up to NRL and is now slowly building a good partnership with young Mclean..

and you blokes have gone off to find another victim.,,,

I read most days what is written. Some days Chins if it looks like a witch hunt, sounds like a witch hunt, reads like a witch hunt.

It's a witch hunt......and some days the witch hunt line is crossed.
I really rate Tago that's why he pisses me off so much. Kinda the same with Smith, it really seems like he read too much of his press last year

Tago's defence was diabolical with every podcast and major paper calling it out. I respect your love for the club but you are insanely biased

The rugby leage guru guys or whatever their called actually did a really good anylasis last year and showed examples of how tago was being left in impossible situations by his inside men.

Not muxh has changed this year. Nath and marto have been caught out alot.

Even on the weekend their try in the corner was souley bizzas fault.

Ive always maintained when the blokes around tago do their job hes actually a very good defender. You never really see him get stopd up one on one.

When the right is short numbered or torn to shreds is when it goes to shit.

Who told you told you that rubbish about smith? Cause it took an injury to barnet and Hamole pulling out for Linday to be named 20th man so its sounds made up to me.

Lindsay has 100 percent been worse this year than last year, origin throws up many weird selections and Lindsay is only 20th man after two guys ahead him pulled out so i dont know what you guys think this means but he went from a kangaroos team last year to barely scrapping into 20th man in the blues squad after a couple of outs. That alone is a downgrade and should be used as confirmation that he has gone backwards this year, if he got better he wouldve been in the top 17.

Luke did you really say Lindsay has been a shining light? seriously are you that delusional mate.

Earlier this year he said Tago has been struggling massively and was surprised when he only got dropped to the bench, its still on his insta. Also Martin and Nath never seem to leave Garner hang out like that, maybe they just dont like tago hey?

Totally correct.

The lack of criticism of Nathan and Liam Martin in every break made on Tago's edge has been astounding.

Not laying the blame on arguably the best player in the game along with his representative second rower just looks bad.

But piling on the young centre and blaming him for every missed tackle is so easy for the armchair critics.

Which superstars allowed Ezra Mam to score 3 tries in 10 minutes in the 2023 GF?

And it's been similar ever since.

Mate Tago has been the common denominator on that right side defense. He has been there for us more than Nathan, or Marto or Bizza. This goes back a year now that side has been prone to giving up very soft tries.

I defended Tago a lot last year about his defence, I think Turuva was a big part of that problem, but come on, some of Tago's defensive mistakes this year have been shocking. His effort on the dolphins first try is imprinted on my brain. If you cant look at that try and say Tago was completely lost defensive in that play and looked completely shot with his decision making then you have let your unconscious bias get the better of you, Tago has been struggling for a year now with his defence.

To his credit he has improved since going back to the bench, but lets just be realistic, he has been a terrible defensive centre for quite a while.

Mam scored those tries down Tagos side mate, no one is saying every try down that side is his fault but if you cant admit tago is a bad defender then you are just biased moron.

Nath said in a presser a few weeks ago he needs to be better in defence. Bizza had a shocker of a read on the weekend.. martos lateral speed goes to crap when hes buggered and ivan leaves him out there..

The proof is in the pudding. When the right side have got it right over the last few years we are rock solid in defence and win comps.

Theres been soo many tries this year where nath and marto have made bad calls and a try goes through tagos area and people blame him.

Ill say again. He very rarely ever gets stood up one on one.

Garner did a solid job when he filled in but it wouldn't work across a season. Teams with faster men like walsh, the hammer, ponga etc would burn him all day long.

The right side still looks out of sorts to me. We still getting caught short to often. Is it tagos fault no. The whole right side need to be better and more in sync.

It seems to be slowly improving.

Just cause Tago is bad doesnt mean others cant be on that side also. But the big genius you are saying proved its not Tagos fault last year has absolutely said earlier this year tago's defence was not up to scratch, he has been bad defensively this year mate, how is that even up for debate right now? its just completely ridiculous imo. Yeah he is getting better since being dropped to the bench, that doesnt mean he is good, not even close.

Try one... 3 on 3. Lindsay smith caught at 2nd row. Mam popped him. If tago came in earlier mam puts the centre away.

Try two... nowhere near tago. Nath missed him on one one.

Try 3... nath shot out of the line and completely missed walsh which maam scored off...

Nath missed two shockers...

None to do with tago..

Your a smart poster and read the game well but cmon haha.

Correct me if I am wrong but Lindsay was defending at right edge when theat happened? so he was on Tagos side.

And Nathan, again correct me if i am wrong, he defends next tago right?

Mam almost exlusively attacks down his left no? which would be our right therefore tagos side?

Tell me how those tries werent scored down tagos side?

Yeah I did, because unlike the majority on here, I watch both sides of the game and defence has been outstanding.

Last year I thought he would tend to drift a bit too much, he’d make his tackles, but I wouldn’t say he was still a lose.

This year he’s much tighter and is hitting like a truck, with the same tackle effectiveness. I really like his contact.

I could care less what he does in attack, that’s not his role.
