I don't know if Leota can defend, I know Sam and Lats can, better than the statue prone 3 anyway.

Have another run through last night's side:

1. Matt MOYLAN (c) Played SOO,slightly fatigued.
2. Josh MANSOUR same as Moylan but played outstandingly.Needs a week off after SO is over.
3. Waqa BLAKE Sill a little raw.Needs to improve his ball security.
4. Tyrone PEACHEY Out of position,but trying his best.
5. Dallin WATENE-ZELEZNIAK A sound game with another try.
6. Bryce CARTWRIGHT Maestro Extraordinaire.
7. Nathan CLEARY Best player behind Mansour.
8. Leilani LATU Switches on and off throughout the game.Needs to be on all game.
9. Peter WALLACE.Played well,but is still learning the position.
10. Reagan CAMPBELL-GILLARD Usual strong running game.
11. Isaah YEO Ran strongly,but at times he seems to overexert himself.
12. Trent MERRIN 45 tackles and 4 miles of hit-ups.
13. Suaia MATAGI OK game although he needs to at times needs to be more purposeful.
14. Sitaleki AKAUOLA Great future but still greenish.
15. Jeremy LATIMORE came on and did his usual grind.
16. Chris GREVSMUHL scored a try,and was sound.
20. James FISHER-HARRIS Gotta learn to turn his hip towards the defense or he will end up getting buckled over more times than he needs to.

Overall,in comparison to the full strength run on side from the first few rounds,this is a team that is an abundance of inexperience.

A few more rounds,and we will be getting back more players.But the telling point about our side is twofold.The discipline,and our inability to score points when we really need to.

I have no doubt we will make the eight.But it will only be part of the learning curve for our team for the 1st week of the finals if we don't start attacking,and defending.

Matagi = out
Cartwright = 13
Moylan = 6
Hardaker = 1

Is what I'm hearing is being considered by Hook.

It's worth a try, was thinking it myself, it just means Cartwright can't (or shouldn't) play 80. It will mean more defence, but it will be less defence against backs and in less space, which I think is more his problem than tackling big men. The issue is RCG and Latu are both poor defenders, if Cartwright plays lock one of them should drop back to the bench, don't want those 2 and Cartwright holding down the middle all together. Ideally we'd play Merrin at prop to steel the middle.

The main obvious pro is that it makes room for Moylan in the halves and doesn't pin Cartwright down to one side. And it still allows for two fringe running forwards for Cartwright to work with, one either side, rather than him being one. Playing 11 or 12 it's hard for him to pop up in the back line on the other side of the field like he did for Mansour's try, and he'd be in Grevsmuhl's position so he wouldn't have had Grevsmuhl to work with as first the decoy and then the support player for Grevsmuhl's try.

Good. I don't like Cartwright at 6, liking Moylan less and less at 1, and Matagi's defense is not made up for by his yardage. Hardaker I have no idea about.

DWZ's days may be numbered. He hasn't really kicked on at all, and nothing about him really screams "Keep him!" But as a winger he does a job, so until someone else bursts onto the scene in his position, he is safe in the side. I just don't think (a) he'll be happy on the wing, and (b) we will really be too concerned about keeping him.

Big gamble playing a guy in an important position in fullback when we are a chance to make the finals. That hasn't had a pre season with us, doesn't know our plays and is untested in the NRL.
It would be safer to play a few weeks in NSW cup and then easy him in if ready in the centres. I read somewhere today before playing fullback he play left centre.

We haven't shown to be able to do anything in the finals if we make it anyway. Hardaker could potentially change that, I don't see a better bet to make than him at FB for improving things considerable. He's potentially a star and without any real short comings, his hands are good, can cover space and is a strong tackler.

he might be good for us in terms of the fact that moylan has to always pass it to mansour on kick returns. evidently so mansours a beast but still if hes like dugan hardaker could be worth the risk. wouldnt rush him in but soon enough

The problem is, Super League appears to be about midway between NSW Cup and NRL level. So players from Super League may or may not make the step up in standard.

I'm assuming he will not throw him straight in...

I actually doubt that Moylan will make it at 5/8. If he cannot dominate tackles and gets monstered at FB, he will have the same problems at 5/8. I think that if TMM comes on ok, he will be 5/8 and DWZ or possibly Hardaker will be FB. Moylan is ok, but no star for me.

Tom.

There's been other defensive liabilities thrive at 5/8

Moylan's hand skills are easily good enough to make him one of the better halves running around. No guarantees of course , the defensive work rate could shatter his confidence. But if he doesn't at least get a shot it's a crying shame.

I miss Sowie, how is he going to force his way into the team.
I read on daily telegraph he is going to retire before June.
I wish another team would pick him up.
How about Manly they are always down in halves with Cherry injured 24/7

I feel for you SweetandSoward.

Going by your nick,you are obviously an avid fan of JS.

I think this is something that most of us go through and Soward would be the first to admit that this was the kick in the bum kind of reality check he needed.

Whether it [his form] had anything to do with football or not,at least it seems like he is now getting his act into gear.

Which in the matches ahead will benefit Sowie and the team at large.

But will he ever get back into first grade.

Wow what a change this side took.
We went from having Soward and Wallace in the halves and Segyaro as Hooker.
And Moylan as fullback.

And this was the ultimate spine. And this would never happen again.
