They have a playmaker in 7 and 9 with a plodder at 6. Gutherson offers more than Jacks. Arthur seems happy with a non-playmaking 9, despite the glaring need for one. It boggles the mind. All recent premiers have had a creative 9 (Souths won with Api in the GF but had Luke all year - and their opponents were missing Ennis)

Jacks...another unbelievable value from essentially a nothing player by Bellyache. He can tackle and really thats all his got to his game.

He'd never be considered for an NRL start at any other NRL club.

Agreed, but in the end I suspect the majority of Eels supporters expect far more than being in competition with 10 other sides just so they can scrape into the 8 to justify a finals experience. As supporters, we should have gone to Canberra today expecting to win if we were considering ourselves to be a title threat, and in the end, that's what it's all about. I honestly think the Titans loss had a far bigger impact on the Eels mentally than people think.
We are not genuine title contenders this year. Last year we were and then we lost millions in TPAs. Why would anyone expect to go as well?

We have to accept we will have a worse winger than Semi Radradra next year. But we can probably find a first grader and not have to overpay.

I think we're actually going to miss Semi considerably more than anyone realises, which is going to make our sqaud consideably weaker without the addition of at least 3 better players.

No. You've said this group of players with the addition of one player (a half) is a potential top 4 team, so essentially next years squad is this squad minus Semi and adding a half.
Guys like French, Kritchard and Moeroa will be much better next year, plus Gutherson will be in a more natural position for him (assuming we buy a half). On top of increased experienced to key players, adding a legit NRL half will change our team significantly.

Nope, but anything less than top 8 will be considered another huge failure.

I'd say any and every team that misses the 8 considers that particular year a failure. We aren't an exception, but punting BA if this happens would be a major blow (imo)

Kritchard has a very good running game. He just needs to be smarter about using it, which will come with experience. A few more sneaky darts like today and markers will have to think twice about rushing Norman. Plus another halfback will help there too.

If we were only 50% chance of making the eight (assuming about eight teams fighting for about four spots) then is missing the finals really a failure?

Our middle isn't going to get any better without adding better players though.

But because they already have two quality general play kickers in their spine that's all they need from a 6.

We'll probably never be a 'top four team'. But some years a top eight team sneaks into the top four. That's our best chance and I think with the addition of a legitimate half we can become a top eight team.

Im talking about Melbournes edge forwards today compared to our edge forwards today.
Why are you fixated on Melbourne's edge forwards? They have a very strong and expensive team across the park. Clearly their edge forwards are less important to them than ours are to us.

Our middle is good enough. They just need to be patient and not freak out about making a slow play-the-ball. They matched Canberra today when they forced them to make as many tackles. Metres got easier as the Raiders were worked around and fatigued.

For obvious reasons we were forced to remove our 7, a more than solid 9 and our biggest prop - who had put us in a position to make the 8 last year

We were then not made aware of our full cap position by the myth and his mate, until the majority of big name players were off the table. Only able to sign Vave and Matagi due to cap room needed at their clubs late in the piece.

Would be crazy to assume that the coach does not understand what additions are needed, they just weren't there when our CEO was appointed and the cap cleared up by the NRL. That's the real issue, but of course Greenberg was a big help in making the Eels a powerhouse ( yeah right) .

As evidenced when?
First 4 rounds he only has 2 tackle busts
Round 1, 5 runs for 28m
Round 2, 2 runs for 10m
Round 3, 1 run for 14m
Round 4, 6 runs for 51m

And he only registered his first line break of the season tonight when he scored

Excuses, excuses. I'm not getting any younger. As far as I'm concerned we started the year better than expected, then nosedived into mediocrity without anyone being able to give a plausible explanation why. Both teams we creamed are doing just fine now, yet we are now content to wallow in familiar territory of if's buts and whatever's, and more excuses. I don't expect miracles, but I expect some form of consistency,
