We risk the farm on Welsh's knee or move on to RCG. We obviously made the correct call but Im a greedy pri*k. I'd like both. If we are to part company with Evans, Alvaro, Terepo, Gower and Stefano surely we can add one goodun to support whats left plus the pair or young bookends.
Why would we let Alvaro go?

He isn't wanted. He signed when he was playing his best and a starter. He also was given permission to test but took up a players option. In other words no other clubs felt he was worth the price tag.
Our best bet is he impresses at the Warriors and THE DUKE wants to hold onto him. I'm unsure how he has been going there but he might be the type of player they need. Certainly better then KE for that side who plays erratic.

What they ^ said.
I was hoping his stint at The Worriers might help a return to effectiveness but sadly he just dosent appear to be able to cut it any more. I guess its not what I think but its pretty obvious BA has lost faith in him as well. Hes played all of 7 minutes for our beloved Eels this season while a player who is signed elsewhere has been given greater opportunities. I also note the young Bookends are being upgraded as well.
Polar was very good once but like Mannah before him, I think his time is up.

I don’t think Alvaro was ever ‘very good’. He has always been average and looked ok in 2018 when our team was absolute dog shit and we came last. What he is producing at the Warriors is what he has always done. Plods to the line, never breaks tackles or creates offloads and doesn’t hit hard in defence.

We might be able to free up some money? He re-signed when he was a regular member of the 17 and even next year once Kane is gone he may not be in our plans. He may want to leave too
Regular top 17 doesn't mean he's on big money. I doubt letting him go would free up much considering he would need to be replaced by a player on at least minimum wage.

And with the middles leaving the club there will be more need for him.

There is no higher workrate in the game. Not everyone has to provide impact, especially when there's a budget.

I understand not re-signing him, but in this case the sunk cost isn't a fallacy. Subsidising him to leave benefits nobody.

But if the two youngsters Hughes and Hollis have now overtaken him letting him go elsewhere does free up a top 30 spot. He’s been solid for the Warriors but has shown nothing to suggest he will be anywhere near our top 17 going forward.

It could mean he's on more than what we want to pay for a back-up. It may not free much but it may free enough to allow us to upgrade a current player off-contract at the end of next year or offer that little bit extra to a recruit.

He could also now have a bad attitude that we want to get rid of around training and don't care what money we free up if any?

Lol not that pointless stat again. I hope we get another article talking about irrelevant stats on ‘essential’ plodders that get 7 minutes in our season.

Work rate without any impact is meaningless.

It's not meaningless, it slows the ruck. That's why we re-signed him.

Id figure being our best player as determined by the coach and winning the Ken Thornett Medal would have bumped his price up Poo. He was also re signed prior to the introduction of the Recruitment /Retention /Negotiation Committee which had the previous head of that one man department calling the shots. Thank heavens that has changed.

WTF? Having a high work rate doesn’t necessarily slow the ruck. You would need to provide play the ball speeds of Alvaros tackles to back up that ridiculous claim.

The whole point of getting numbers into the tackle is to slow the play the ball. Or do you think Alvaro is the only player in the middle making one on one tackles?

Winning awards doesn't bump up price any more than the award makes you play better. Both the money and the award come from the quality of your play.

Any person that watches rugby league knows that in season gone by we have been the worst at slowing the ruck. If that is why Alvaro was in the team he’s not made any positive impact in that regard. But until we get some play the ball speed stats there is no way of knowing for sure.

If that was true we would've had worse defence. Our attack has always been the problem, including in 2018 when we had the worst attack in the comp.

He definitely offers f**k all in attack but it's stupid to say he's not a contributor in defence. Without him we would've been worse.
