I reckon we actually won the middle. Our forwards definitely out played their pack. Obviously once Souths spread the ball using decoys etc our edges absolutely sh*t themselves.
Our forwards might be better runners than theirs but Souths had an overlap for every try. If that's happening your middle isn't doing its job in defence. It's not just about making the tackle. It's about getting into position behind the ruck ready for the next play. Souths attack were doing it and our middle wasn't working hard enough to get the numbers right. That means our edges need to compress and then try and react to being outnumbered.
Fergo wasnt great but OMG Waqa and Sivo were diabolical. Waqa in particular was squating flies all night. Probably close to the worst defensive performance ive seen from a player. Sivo wasnt much better.
Obviously they could have reacted better to being outnumbered than they did, but if you keep putting defenders under pressure with numbers they will make mistakes.

I finally summoned the courage to watch a replay given the bloody hopeless seat i had on the Brett Kenny Terrace last Thursday night.

Moses tried his guts out particularly in D.
How brave was Drown playing on with an injury that requires surgery.
Lane tried hard but his body language is absolute crap. He needs a rocket up him.
Regretably our A is so predictable.
Kick to Gutho tackle 1.
Pass to Sivo tackle 2.
Pass to Fergo tackle 3.
Pass to a forward tackle 4.
Same script every set.
You can see the opposition D move into position knowing exactly whats coming.
Mahoney showing more skill at D/H is a n absolute must. He has to run or show something.
While we were powering through the middle we were looking great.
We absolutely have to fu*k off whoever is planning out attack. Its absolute sh*t.

I was thinking to myself the other day that we would probably look better in attack if Mahoney could choose what the play was for the first 3 tackles of the set inside the 20m zone; he can choose whether he wants to kick it, run it, or dump the ball to a half.

Mahoney has shown more creativity lately than Moses imo, so why not utilise him - especially since DylBro is out for the year?

When I say middle i dont mean edge forwards. Lane was quite lazy at times particularly in the Cody Walker try.

I reckon I've posted three times in about a month (four counting this one) so if that annoys you mate I'd say it sounds like a personal problem.

Tbh I'd rather ignore the toxic garbage from those "others who contribute" than I would "abuse" them. Hence the low recent post count.

No time for miserable merkins, sorry.
Baz you don’t call you don’t write what am I meant to think????

That sequence bringing the ball out has been there for 2 seasons and is so obvious it’s a gimme now for opposing defences. The attacking structure inside the opposition half is Similar in its Structure and easy to read when anyone has done a video review.

Sitting up high in the stands it’s so clear how we structure it’s easy to defend. Time to look at options in that area at least for 2021, as before it’s good to be loyal but not at the expense of improving outcomes , the attack is slow , predictable and ponderous.
BA has just worked out how to use a VCR, give him a few more years and he will have it figured out. As long as we have stability!!!!!

Interesting, if true - he's played no footy this year.

I see no upside to Smith over Field who has at least taken the field this year.

I’d be open to considering Smith at 14 to relieve Mahoney though. I know Stone has done an adequate job, but he could easily have been pinged for 4-5 forward passes last week from dummy half, and he didn’t run for a single metre. Our bench must provide impact, and just coming on and making tackles doesn’t cut it.

Eh?

For a few of Souths backline tries they had two decoys (bodies in motion) runners run back towards the middle, and we had two backs follow those decoys when they didn’t need to, creating huge space out wide
