When you get flogged it's usually the edges where the tries are scored. That's true of every team. Our left edge has scored heaps of tries. What does that say about the right edge defence of our opponents?
Never quoting any of you posts again, you are the comeback king, cannot even have a debate with you, always shooting down everyone else’s opinion, I don’t know if you’re more arrogant or annoying, a little of both I think.

My expectations from round 3 to now was that we wouldn’t have performance like last night this season. We can definitely perform worse but last night was akin to last year magic round. Those games need to be dropped. Season management is definitely a thing but wavering effort at this stage of season isn’t good

The form of RCG, the breakthrough season for Niukore and the difference the addition of Ryan Matterson would make to our side. Maybe Mattersons influence isn’t surprising but not many people would have predicted RCG and Niukore having such huge seasons.

I did.

That’s a symptom. His reasoning is around that symptom just being inherent in the club somehow. Are you suggesting that the very club causes mental weakness? For the past 30 years?
Mental weakness, in regard to football teams, refers to lack of onfield leadership. We've obviously had trouble recruiting this sort of player over the past 30 years. They are very f**king expensive. It's telling that neither of our two most experienced players are in our leadership group.

I just watched the press conference and i think he was quite clear on what needs to happen, it is everything that has been said on here, so i don't know how he is "clueless" or doesn't know what needs to be done as has been suggested.

Ultimately it can be up for debate whether he has the ability and/or people around him to bring it out in the team however not knowing and not knowing how to get those effort areas fixed are 2 different things.

Line speed and doing extras has been what has won us 12 games this year, last night that just wasn't there at all. Do you think Souths are able to spread it wide so fast if we are up quick on them? f**k no!

It's why the bad teams get a shit load of points scored against them cause they don't have those fundamentals drilled into them, unlike the Roosters and Storm where even when they are down troops they are still hard to crack in defence because those fundamental structures are coached into them and it becomes muscle memory, the bad teams don't have the conditioning/coaching to keep turning up for each other.

We have improved out of sight in relation to those effort areas and fundamentals up until last night, so either the back to back wet weather matches with shorter turnarounds then into the most mentally challenging club we have struggled with into our now 4th decade and ultimately winning (regardless of their depletion) released a pressure valve and they rested on their laurels OR the coach has no idea........i guess we will find out in the next 4 weeks........

It will be real fun around here though with all the wrist slitting......

You know what I don’t get?

Last week, we held a Storm reggies side to nil, and all and sundry declared that we are not serious contenders.

Then last night, Souths belt us, and everyone loses their minds, saying that they are the real deal?

You can't have it both ways - either we are not the real deal (and thus, belting us proves nothing), or we are the real deal (and belting us makes a statement).

You can't have it both ways.
If by 'real deal' you mean deserving of premiership favouritism, then we aren't. But if you mean we're a good team then we are, and belting us makes Souths the real deal.

Their entire spine has played Origin and 100+ NRL games ffs. Reynolds is about to hit 200 games. They are mature too. The only youngster among the four is Latrell Mitchell.

Meanwhile our spine has no Origin experience, and includes a couple of kids with less than a hundred games between them. We shouldn't expect this team to have great attack. We need to get into the grind and stay there. Next year we can expect more from Drown and Mahoney. This year we should expect what we're getting.

Moses needs to do more but he just looks off the pace and it seems to be affecting his confidence. That low percentage offload to Nrown last night started the rot. It was a dumb decision and uncharacteristic. It's like they started caring that everyone was writing off our attack. The goal is to win, not score off every half chance. We built no pressure and got our pants pulled down and our tiny penises laughed at.

My guess (hope) is that is that the players are being overworked in training and some tough games of late and what we are seeing is in large part due to exhaustion. And the coaching staff will read my post and realise I'm right and give everyone a couple of days off. Then everything will be sweet.

We actually don't have a gun side. But that in itself is a problem when you consider Arthur has been at the helm for seven years and this is the best squad he's been able to assemble. Look at our spine: a rookie hooker (who, in my opinion is being poorly used); a rookie five-eight who is developing but is really a half-back in disguise; a (still) erratic half-back who goes missing (still) when he is needed most - and who is, in my opinion, a very good five-eight in disguise; and a fullback who is a workaholic, with great attitude, but not really a fullback. Does that sound like a recipe for success?
Add to that Ferguson who is at the end of his career, Waqa Blake who will probably never have a career; Michael Jennings who is also near the end of his career. Sivo, who is over-rated to buggery. We do have a good forward pack. If we used Mahoney better, we have the sort of forward pack that could win a premiership. But the backs - and the way they are used - suck.
Nobody is in disguise. Moses and Drown are playing their best roles. They're just not wearing the jersey numbers you want them to be wearing. As for this being the best side we could have assembled, recruitment and retention are about so much more than the coach. Some clubs have more advantages than others, which is why Ricky Stuart could win a comp at the Roosters and a spoon at Parra. It's why Maguire won a premiership with Souths but can't make the finals with Wests. It's why Bennet won premierships with multiple clubs (and might do so again this year) but missed the finals in two out of three years with Newcastle. Coaching is just one part of the puzzle, and can't be judged on a single game or even a single season. It certainly can't be compared with the results of coaches at other clubs, because I've shown how THE SAME f**kING COACH can have wildly different results depending on the front office where he's employed.

But merkins need a scapegoat, and they like to see the coach as a proxy for the entire organisation. When our club is better we'll get a better coach. The new facility will be a great drawcard, plus hopefully management is finding new ways to get more money into the football department. Covid had certainly thrown the cat amongst the pigeons on that front. Hopefully the clubs we're competing with are having to dial back their football spending in line with ours, but I suspect some clubs have better access to deep pockets than we do.

Which games did we win that we were expected to lose? I know we lost to the Sea Eagles and Dragons as unbackable favourites. If you think there is a problem with our expectations then would you say we’ve been playing to our ability the last 8 weeks and that our expectations are too high?
Yep. The only game that pissed me off was last night's. Not only did I underestimate Souths but it looks like our team did as well.
