If they got rid of this dumb rule merkins wouldn't be reefing at it long after the ball is wrapped up and the tackle is effectively complete. As it is, ball carriers are going to have to go into contact with both arms wrapped around the ball like a f**ken little bitch and there'll be far fewer offloads or even players using their fend.

Offload when you are free to offload.

You stop being free to offload only when some merkin has wrapped the ball up. But by then, if the defence is smart, that defender now has better control of the ball than the ball carrier, because he has both hands around it while some other defender is occupying the attacker's other arm. The only way to make a fair contest is for the attacker to hold the ball in two hands as soon as he's in contact with the defence. That'll make offloads as rare as uncooked chicken from Iberia.

Perhaps the players who are consistently good at offloading the footy are consistently good because they know when to offload, and all this drama about killing second phase play is an overreaction to the fact that shit offloaders like Evans and Takairangi have had to be less dumb?

Offloads will drop off significantly when these 'one-on-one' steals drop off. At the moment most players haven't adjusted.

Once every f**ker starts doing it, the game will either becoming big f**kers cradling the ball and just running for 5 tackles then a kick, hot potato so no player gets isolated against multiple attackers or like the olden day shitfests of striking in ruck, teams constantly turning ball over in a confusing, boring mess

The worse decision I saw all weekend was the Souths forward pass to win their game in the dying seconds vrs the Dragons. That was an absolute shocker.

If Kearney did a "Brad Arthur" he would have got the rub of the green during the game against the Eels.
