Agree about JOffa, there’s a reason why he’s played for clubs that have always struggled. That’s because he is just shit. Really offers nothing other than breathing air on the field. Useless as tits on a bull.

Really like Iongi. But would like him to be lurking a bit more around the ruck waiting for an off load. Good fullbacks do that.

And you’re spot on regarding the rest.
Iongi does some things well but still not in Guth's league.

In defense, he is not as smart as Guth. Guth will know how to hold up a tackled player, when to strip the ball, etc (Hayne had this abiility too).

When returning the ball, he tries to beat the man by running side ways but hasn't made a break yet. He also doesn't use a support player like a winger, he runs away from them.

Guth ran straight and hard looking for the shortest route to the opposition try line. So Iongi might run more but alot of it is sideway.

And like you said, he should always be around the play the ball hoping for an offload, looking for chances.

In attack, he seems to be waiting for the set play so he can chime in and throw a cutout rather than being opportunists like Gutho, Teddy and the man he has been studying all these years.

Like i have not seen him go to dummy half and make a quick dart because he sees a retreating defense. Actually, don't know where he is really.

I don't seeing him telling the defense which way to go, always saw cameras on Gutho doing that. Not sure if that's because the camera is not on Iongi.

Our attack shouldn’t just revolve around offloads though.
Forwards passing before the line, edge forwards hitting holes/running at halves 1:1 , better shape from our halves giving Iongi more opportunity. We aren’t doing any of this well at the moment.
The tactics need to suit the players. We have a pack that suits the offload game. Or at least we did.

Have to disagree on him running sideways on kick returns he ran hit straight and hard and got hit hard alot today. Also linked up with his wingers a few times.

I mentioned in the first half he doesn't support players but in the second half noticed him in support a few times.

He could have a few more runs when attacking the defensive line but Edwards barely does it as well and mostly chimes in on set plays same with Gutho.

Yes he is calling out on defence out the back.

Back from the game

Dinner , gelato and pub also..

If you like Singapore/Malaysian tucker - Temasek have moved to a bigger premise 100 George St.

Lomax was outstanding, playing on the wing. JAC the other permanent winger from now on
JPaulo dug deep, great first stint. Tried to be vocal when not out of puff
Hawkins was excellent for an Eels first gamer in the spine, better than I thought
Brown can do better , but chooses not to
Samrani impressive, despite a couple errors. Will only get better hopefully
Service from Smith over Lussick was noticeable - crisper/cleaner
(Lussick fast pass to Williams shoulder causing an error a case example)
Tautoga and SamT huge potential, how far can they take it
Great crowd over 24k, id say a bit more dogs supporters there than Eels
I saw two random Souths fans

First time we held a side under 20 points since rd 4 last year (16-17 loss to the tigers)

Think Manly will throw a bit more at us. We should do ok provided we dont make as many errors as we did v Dogs, and our defence is as good with no soft tries offered like the first dogs one

I didn't mind him initially - I thought he was a hard-working middle.

But ever since his act of immature stupidity in our trial (from an experienced player, in front of a new coach, no less), I've been off him.

And he's not working as hard as he probably should be.

I thought the 2nd half showed a lot more variety in attack than last year?

There were short interchanged passes in the middle
It wasn't just 1 out hitups, there were phases where the forwards ran in pairs.
There was a block play on the Lomax side which they used 4 times and 3 of those times used a different option. The play had 3 guys running different lines from a bunched starting position. It almost worked twice.
There was inside balls too.

Execution was a little lacking. But the Dogs are a good defensive team and we showed surprising variety in attack compared to last year.

I thought that the Dogs supporters may have equalled or even out numbered us yesterday. They were even sitting in the new SWARM corner. How TF does that happen.

The general consensus of the peeps sitting around us was that if Gutho played yesterday, we win. We just lacked someone to jump in and sweep and draw a man. Maybe force some shape.

I know that Dylan is playing like dogshit (personally I think he’s in shock about the surreal nature of the deal and the not negotiable baggage and growing up that comes with it), but he will soon put that behind him and up his game. Anyone who thinks he should “go now” and be replaced by yet another rookie, has killled too many brain cells in their youth.

Doesn't happen often enough and is in slow motion. And we have too many wasted set up plays.
I think we had more variety in attack under Barrett, but they're 2 totally different lineups so can't compare.

As others have mentioned I think there's been a big improvement in Doorey's game. I had marked his cards to never play again after some of his efforts last year, but so far his defence seems to have improved a lot and he's carrying the ball well.
Still just a bench option, ideally 5th in the middle rotation. But good to see some improvement from a playing that has been struggling the last few years.

Think we still keep Brown in the side

He has always had a laid back persona, now he is leaving it looks amplified, and seen as not giving a shit

Still defending well

Had 12 runs yesterday, probably has a few more if we don't make those dumb errors before hand

He just isnt the type of player to take ownership/control of a match, we saw that last year

Think with Moses back he will be better

And? Would you reward others who were playing like dogshit?
I think he’s capable of playing better but the risk/reward of continuing to play him gets closer to risk every week. Hawkins was the one at half time talking in the huddle, then in the second half he was the one who took over organising and we finally looked competent.

Two things on this.

1. I was talking about people wanting him to leave the club today. That's dumb.
2. If you want to drop him to reggies then you best find someone better to take his place. Is that Josh Lynn or one of 4 other rookies ? Manly are already a 5 try better team than us. At least Dylan will tackle.
