Well in the end Manly won the second half 14-12, after resting a few of their guys early too.

But it's probably as close as we've been, but again we fade in and out of the 80mins - not building to anything, and not consistently being able to defend to expected standard.

I disagree, give him some time / 40 or so games.

Yes made some mistakes, but he can play. Works very hard in defence. Runs hard and has some ball skills. We need to give him some space on the edge

Positives:
Ryley Smith
A couple of nice passing plays here and there
Periods of defence where the middle and edges seemed to hold ok

Negatives:
Dopey defensive lapses
Poor willingness in attack to put the opposition in two minds
Why Riley Smith only gets 35mins, all in the second half
Lack of consistent effort from senior or skilled players who should know (or be coached to know) better

I think both things can be true. The issue is that in neither game did it really feel like we were in it. So I’d put the relative closeness (as sad as it is to use that term in both losses) down to the opposition taking their foot off the pedal, though with some green shoots for us in defence.

Lightning struck once when Papali’i became the best second rower in the game, then he fell sharply back to reality.

These morons in our recruitment continue to think any reserve grader can be polished, we have a NRL recruitment person in Ben Rogers, what the heck does he do. We extend and resign questionable talent , and provide questionable options.

Until we resolve the issue in our recruitment and retention area, we will continue to muddle along , and it’s embarrassing to look at what they have achieved since 2021. I’m off to Port Macquarie for 6 days and for the first time since whenever, not coming back to use my Season Ticket, that’s how disappointing we have become. Sat through the early 90s but understood that Fitzgerald was rebuilding the Leagues Club, no excise for the idiots in charge now. They have screwed up so bad, that even if we have a decent amount to spend, it’s too late as there doesn’t seem any quality to sign for 2026. Terrible indictment on their time in .charge
