Rd5: Eels v Dragons GAME DAY THREAD @ BankWest Stadium 11/4/21

I'm pissed at tonight's effort, but some perspective, please - it's round 5.

There's a shit-tonne of work for this team to do, but how about we leave the wrist-splitting to after round 10?

Hell, we could probably even afford to lose next week (though nobody wants that, obviously).

I'm not wrist slitting and i don't think we are shit but we have a coach and team who don't seem to be able to do what premiership contenders do.

We need a genuine X-Factor if we are going to get anywhere with the current coaching staff........or we need a top tier coach who can teach the little things needed for the current team to move to the next level.

I guess it all depends on what each individual fan is happy with, some may be happy with the current status of being perennial finalists and early exits with the chance of getting to the big dance OR you may be the fan who only premierships matter OR you may just be happy to see your team play in the NRL and are happy with what you get.

Dylan Brown offers absolutely nothing as a half. Has not provided one line break assist all year. Everyone harps on about his running game but he has only produced 1 line break all year (tonight).He basically just takes hitups 2 off the ruck.

I don't think fans matter in this. Jim Santinos said we'll be finalists every year and then we'll see how many premierships we win.

Dragons were so far offside and incessantly holding down, 1 sin bin was not sufficient...
They should have had more players sat down...

1 TA 3 TB 1 LB, 29 tackles with no misses and 10 runs for 111m , no sure we can expect much more from a 20 year old half, he is the least of our problems tonight ...... he would have had another TA if it wasn’t because of Paulo’s laziness .....

How he played tonight - stupid offloads, drop balls, running sideways, dumb kicks, giving penalties away and missed tackles leading to tries is exactly how he spent his years on the Gold Coast.

But surely watching the game you would have realised he didn't get a try assist? We only scored 2 of the f**kers. One of them Gutho did it all himself, the other Nathan Brown provided the TA to Papali'i.

But back to my original point he offers nothing as a half.

When you have kids and the game is on at 6.00 in prime dinner / bed time and the boss is at work you don’t exactly remember everything 1.5 hrs later.....

I took the stats on face value, I couldn’t tell you without checking who made the finally pass to Gutho / Papa for the tries.....

Cartwright is a total head case.
He was completely as advertised.

Arthur is going to put his arms around him and Cartwright will throw pie in his face all year. This is my prediction.

Cartwright is a guy we need in a tight game with our heads on properly, not coming on when we're a couple of tries down and every merkin panicking.

Back from the game..in summary horrible.
No patience, no composure, absolute deadshit plays.
I don't want to sound melodramatic but i would not be renewing Moses. I would bite the bullet and give Adam Reynolds the 3 year deal he is after. Game manager, outstanding goal kicker, vision, composure, patience.
If John's is working with Moses then it's not working. His attacking kicks are just no where near good enough. He plays frantically, he tries miracle plays when we need to go through the hands and he doesn't lead or settle the team down.

He has all the tools except for the ability to make good decisions. Even his defence is solid now.

Tonight's bench was horrible.
The infatuation and rush with Cartwright is puzzling. To go into the game with 1 prop on the bench defies logic. Stone is not good enough, Cartwright has played 1 game and did ok but rushed back in...Why?

Which prop should've played instead? Papali'i and Niukore were needed on the edges. Cartwright first came on in the middle. There was nobody else available.

Fergo time to move him on...too many errors. For an experienced player...sorry nope..
Arthur's bench rotation sucks big time...
He gives Will Smith 5 mins a game...wtf.
Jakob Arthur honestly would steer us around the park better than Moses. He is very good for an 18 year old. Extremely level headed and has all the qualities you want in a half. Has played excellent in NSW cup and Schoolboys final last year...class act.
If our bench is not Kaufusi, Nuikore, Papali'i and Smith then we need another middle or 2nd rower.
Hipgrave for mine is far better than Stone and Cartwright.. if anyone watched nsw cup today Hipgrave was very good.

Hipgrave has a go but he lacks Cartwright's size and mobility.

Nuikore experiment in the centres should finish immediately.
Also we don't have enough pace in the backline.

Hopefully Oldfield solves both of those problems.

You dont win comps in April but i think we have been lucky with wins against Broncos and Sharks with both teams losing 3 and 4 players at halftime...only good game we have really played is against the Storm..

We have been lucky but every team that wins the comp has some luck. We just need to make the finals and roll the dice on the day. I think we have a better team than last year.
