Mahoney tackled (lightly) Ponga without the ball. You can’t do it. We got a penalty for the same thing when Kaufusi was tackled lightly without the ball later in the game.

The rule is you can only tackle the player with the ball.

Yeah, the Kaufusi penalty was just as soft, but less play-acting so didn't stand out as much.

I just finished watching the game and jumped on here.

Is the main talking point from this game really Jake Arthur ? Obsessed much ?

I reckon that Dylan did a great job vs Gagai out there, who was probably their only genuine threat.

Reg, Jnr, Matto, Pappa wow. Reedy was busy, but not as good as the commentators said. The bench provided punch and moses was given a wide berth to be creative. Good game by both wingers. Gutho strong.

Enjoy the win you dickheads. Happy Ortho Easter.

On the whole Dylbro / Shrub saga, I'd suggest given the fact we are down to third or fourth string outside backs, and the way we used Dylbro at "centre" during the game, merkins are having a bit of a lend of themselves saying BA pushed Brown out of position to favour Jake.

Brown spent a good amount of time with Lane on his outside in attack, which allowed him to play as he does at five eight at any rate. He defended at centre, which no doubt was good for Perham with talk and positioning, from what I noticed he was pretty much only at centre in attack on transition from the kick taking the second or third hit up.

Our second try, Brown is at first receiver on the short side, Lane on his outside who sucks in Gagai off the wing ( where he's defending that play ) allowing the offload to an unmarked Perham.

Our Third try, Rheed takes off down the short side, Sucks in Clifford enough for Brown is at first receiver t get well on his outside shoulder, again Lane's on his outside, which holds up Gagai just enough for Browns big left foot step to get him past Gagai's inside shoulder.

In attack Brown played pretty much his normal role, but with one less bloke on his outside, he really wasn't moved out of position in a way that meant he couldn't play his natural game, yet our defence didn't suffer from the lack of having a specialist centre on his side.

Jake for the most part was just doing whatever the f**k Moses wanted him to do, which seemed to work well for Moses.

Dare I say it, I reckon given the circumstances, that's good coaching, and made the most of the players we had available.
Then why not have matto there instead and let him get out of the way. A forward couldve taken the bench spot

Some context regarding depth charts, that Mikminimminimmick winger in NSW cup is from Wenty Ron Massey.

Arthur's said as much pre-game. We had structures in place to keep Drown involved, and as you say, often that was him at first receiver on the short side with Lane and Perham outside. Jake Arthur handled the ball a lot early in sets, getting the play-the-ball to the right places, which meant Moses didn't have to. Anyone who thinks Arthur's doesn't play his merkins to their strengths isn't watching the game.

Interestingly, in that first game where we scored all the tries against the Titans, Drown was barely involved in any of them as a playmaker. Twice he played the ball and once toed ahead the kick that bounced back off the post. This despite most tries scored on our left, via Moses and Gutherson passes. Not only do we play to our strengths but we obviously shape our plan to target the opposition.

This doesn't mean Arthur's is the best coach. But it does mean he knows more than any nuffy on here except for me and TheRam.

Matterson is too valuable in the forwards. Jake Arthur threw more passes than anyone other than Mahoney. Do we really want Matterson just passing the ball? What a waste of his running game.

In all honesty. F**ken terrible. Do we really not have any other halves at the club that should be ahead of him?

The young halves that are at the club are Dantoray Lui who has only joined us this year and Ethan Sanders who is 18 playing u/21's. Both could (and probably should) be training with the first grade squad in the off-season but even then they may not be as Jake who will be in his 3rd pre-season.

Fair call. Thats 3-4 sensible people on here that have said that we don't have a better alternative than JA as a back-up. Thats good enough for me.
