I can see why Terepo started. Mannah has been outstanding coming on after Paulo and Alvaro have softened up sides a bit. Not gonna crucify BA in hindsight or for the opinions of his medical staff.

Terepo really is a myth though. Solid first grader, nothing more.

Didn’t Mannah come on after the first tackle last week? I thought he replaced Alvaro, but I might be wrong. Mannah effectively becoming starting prop and Terepo came on later. I was shocked Mannah didn’t start today as he is a like for like replacement for Alvaro. Mannah and Paulo is much better defensively than Penis and Paulo

He did, and I agree. But I can also see why Mannah didn't start.

Just like the Canberra match this one showed that Moses still has a long way to go before he can be considered a great half. He has all the skills needed, but he doesn’t know how to take control of a game when his team is being dominated.

Too many times he was getting the ball on the last and putting it high up in the air for his team to chase. He obviously has no feel for the game if he believes that’s the best option. What was needed on so many of those kicks was to try and get it out over the sideline. Even if he has to give up 10m on the kicking distance, just get it out over the sideline. It lets your team have a breather, slows down the play and doesn’t let your opposition have a free catch and run at a broken defensive line. The kick right before the Pearce try was the most egregious example. Last week he put in some beautiful long kicks over the sideline, but that was when his team was flogging the opposition. We needed some of those today. Is putting up a mid-field bomb hoping for the other team to drop it the best way to play when there is still 20mins of the game left and you are only down by 8 points?

We are sorely lacking by not having D. Brown out there. I know he doesn’t kick much, but at least he’s another option.

Please don’t take this as me saying this loss was all on Moses.
Pretty much the whole team needs to take responsibility for this game.

Starting with Paulo and Penis signified to me that we thought we would be able to steam roll them through the middle from the get go whilst sacrificing defense. It really threw out our balance in the middle and went away from how we have been starting games defensively all year.

Yes, I agree. We were being dominated in the tackles which often meant he was kicking off the back foot. His forwards weren't helping him out much, but he wasn't helping them either. He had chances to put a good kick in, but he didn't. He chose a different option. I had hoped he would learn from that Canberra game but it seems not. If Arthur is at all a good coach he would be drilling this into Moses' brain that the first chance you get to get that ball over the sideline and give your team a break then do it.

Every time Ponga or Lee ran the ball back from his kicks they made metres and got quick play-the-balls. Every time. That just shows that the chasers weren't there to make a good tackle (probably because they were tired), and that the play needed to be slowed down.

I must say, no matter how we turned up to play today, Newcastle came out firing and played a good game. They usually play well against us and did so again today. They've been bloody horrible all year and it's just amazing how different a team can look from one week to the next depending on who they are playing.

I can't wait until Newcastle are a good side again so that these losses will be easier to take.

I watched the first 20min on my phone and it looked like one of those games. Newcastle had all the ball, got 4 penalties in a row. We could not swing the momentum. Very hard to come back from that.

Bullshit. Poor leadership. We did not aim up. At 20-14 it was game on. We just didn't take control.
That is on Moses and the captain Guth.

I think it was pretty clear that Fergo is still not fully fit. In hindsight it may have been a better idea to have him sit out this one. Hoffman may have been able to offer more.

It is very hard to come back from that, but we very nearly did. We got to within 6 points of them at one stage, and we still weren't really playing all that well. A couple more dropped balls and a couple of penalties against us (not all of which were deserved) and the game was gone again.

If we played smarter we still could have won, even after being behind 20-0.

Realistically, you know what it takes to break a genuine hoodoo like that? And you can cue up some of the parrots here (not you, but I can predict it)...

Luck and patience.

I can't tell you why we can't beat Newcastle. The staff at the the club has changed entirely heaps of times, so has the roster, and we still can't. To me that says that Newcastle know about the hoodoo and so do we, and that affects both sides mentally.

You need to grab a win or three in a row and get past that mental hoodoo. Sometimes that takes luck, sometimes it takes a good day, some times it takes patience to play a rubbish game but control it. Today for eg, I think we could have won with Alvaro. So there's some bad luck. We could have won with a bit more patience in attack, so that's about simplifying it and having that patience.

It's not easy. Honestly. I've had sides I have never beaten.

Enthusiasm would help as well.......Newcastle always seem to know that they just need to be extremely enthusiastic against us and we cave.

But yes, patience and luck would help.......we do like to shoot ourselves in the foot.
