Because I have seen first hand the damage they do. I don't need to go a read up to find out why it should be ok for someone to take drugs, i've seen for myself why it should never be legal or approved of in any way.

ok fair enough, but do you understand that that was probably the worst case scenario, and that that type of situation (whatever it may have been) does not happen to the vast majority of people.

also if it were made legal it could be regulated better.

a lot of people may not know that dexamphetamine which is listed of the pharmaceuticals benefits scheme is the dextro- isomer of amphetamine.
so street speed has both the laveo- and dextro- isomers which is less pure than dexamphetamine which is prescribed to children!

couldnt pharmaceutical companies make illicit drugs once legalised? therefore improving quality, reducing costs, promting research to make them less damaging and addictive?

hundreds of thousands of ecstasy pills would be consumed every weekend in sydney alone. imagine if there were no additives, no incorrect binders, no backyeard chemistry, only MDMA and not ajax or omo. a lot of people would be better off. in stead of fighting a losing battle against drugs, why not help improve the situation?
i personally think it'd be ideal

I grew up in a pretty rough area, and well lets just says it's common.

And when was the last time legal drugs were cheap? I doubt very much the government is gonna subsidise recreational drugs, do you? It wouldn't solve the problem at all. It'd just bring it out for everyone to see more often.

The only reason pills are illegal is because the government can't make money of them, unlike alcohol and tobacco.

Actually, the only reason they remain illegal is because it would be political suicide because unfortunately for educated citizens like yourself the majority of citizens hold views like "kiwi".

The government could make a fortune by legalising some drugs.

So having drugs available that were made in a safe lab would not be better? Legalising drugs so young people would not be afraid to talk about it would be bad? Stopping young people from dealing with criminals would not be good either? The government making billions a year to use on drug rehab for hard drugs is a bad thing?

Yeah we live in a country where politicans are too scared to say they even inhaled. I'd rather have a pollie who has used recreational drugs when they were young and knew what they were talking about.

Why not? Is it only appropriate to compare the addictions you want to? There are people out there addicted to the things I listed, there are phelophiles ( sp? ) addicted to child porn.

Phelophiles? That doesn't even sound like the word. It's paedophile.

But anyway, if you really need it explained, things like recreational drug use are victimless crimes. They are hurting nobody else other than themselves (if anyone). Surely that is a choice a person is entitled to make on their own.

Something like child porn/serial killing is quite obviously not victimless.

Yes I guess heroin addicts may break into a house to fund their addiction, but they're hardly recreational users are they and I don't recall seeing anybody advocating the legalisation of heroin. Decriminalising may be a better option however...

But in any case, you say you've seen the bad effects of drugs first hand. Doesn't this just prove to you that the system as it stands doesn't work??

So there are no victims related to drug use other than the drug users themselves :-s

How rife does everyone think recreational drugs are in the game?

You look at past players who have ended up heavily involved in drugs, such as the late Peter Jackson, and it makes you wonder.

I'm sure we've all heard rumours about some of the game's better players being on party drugs. How much truth to the rumours is there do you think?

Not when talking about recreational use.

You mean there is just more than recreational uses for well umm recreational drugs, and it's those uses are the ones that cause others to become victims #-o

Tell me, all those that say drugs should be decriminalised ( which is pretty much being made legal ), what would you reaction be, if you wife, girlfriend, son, daughter, brother, sister, or cousin came to you and said, "man I had the hell weekend, went out partying, popped a few E's, got totaly stoned of my face and had a blast, off to do the same this weekend, might see what else I can try"

Alright this is getting ridiculous.

Firstly, you have to be stupid to think that drugs aren't bad. One bad drug dose and you could end up dead. Long term use can also cause horrible side effects.

Secondly, alcohol is fine in small doses. In fact a beer a day (and that is ONE) has been shown to be potentially good for your heart (helps blood pressure). It is only when alcohol is taken in inappropriate amounts that it affects people.

Finally, we should get back on topic. Clubs and the NRL test players for two main reasons; illegal behavious tarnishes both the image of the club and rugby league, and it can negatively affect a players performance.

Have a think about what you just said. What is alcohol?

You don't have to be stupid to think that NOT ALL illegal drugs are bad, you have to be educated.

For everyones info I've only ever tried weed, never e, never 'shot' anything up. But i've educated myself enough to know that these things can be done responsibly and relatively safely. Moderation is the key to everything.

I smoke weed on occasion and am currently studying for a Bachelor of Business with 2 majors in economics and finance and a submajor in banking. I'm yet to fail anything so it's obviously not killing my mind. If I were to decide to take it up daily, there would be a 6% increased chance of me developing a mental illness later on in life (Source: ABC's Four Corners program a couple of weeks ago). Seems like pretty good odds to me...

I've decided Kiwi's replies are no longer worthy of a response.
