The Melbourne Storm concede they may not be able to hold onto in-form centre Maurice Blair in the face of salary cap pressure.
Blair, who is out of contract at season’s end, has told the Storm he wants to stay beyond this season. But the Storm may not be able to afford him.
“He has a strong desire to stay and we have a strong desire to keep him,” Storm football manager Frank Ponissi told the Herald Sun.
“But at the moment we are just playing around with our salary cap, trying to fit him in.
“We are all on the same page, but just trying to make it happen is a tougher one.
“Hopefully we can come to some sort of arrangement.
It is believed a number of Queensland clubs have expressed interest in the 28-year-old, who is in arguably the best form of his career.
The Gold Coast Titans are seen to have room in their salary cap and there is speculation they are in the market for a centre.
