One of the guys in the know here stated that we were never interested in Beau Scott. We were however interested in Matt Duffie and missed out.

And I am glad we did not get duffie as we would not have got Blair who is just as good if not better and I would say id on 1/3 of what we offered Duffie

What do u mean? Parra have barely won a game in 2 years i can't see too much changing :(

I just don't see the point in crying over spilt milk. If they weren't signed for the Eels they're not really relevant to our football plans. Sure we have only won two games this season and six games last season, but we do have a capable first grade squad. They just aren't being used properly. That said, we might have turned a corner in recent weeks.

I think we should focus on using our current players properly and signing new players to augment our team. Fretting about players we missed out on won't get us anywhere.

Did we speak to their managers though? That's more important...

same thing...

I was also told that Beau Scott and Gagai were never an option..

we pulled the T-Rex offer from the table weeks ago as Jodeci mentioned when Moses said that dogs offered this much...

Toumalolo was actually a done deal until his brother Warner went home because he was home sick and he changed his mind.

Seriously have you ever bought a house or a car? And they're even easier than sports recruitment because you aren't just relying on rumoured player salaries and the car doesn't turn around and say "I know you are offering $X for me, but I'd rather stay in the showroom even though it's only offering free monthly cleans." It's a 2 way street.

On top of that for every T-Rex/Taumololo(?) there is a Sandow/Tonga

Surely hes better than Luke Burt?

Thoughts?
Are you on drugs champ? Talanoa better than Burt, NO he is NOT, don't understand all these Burt haters lots of people have very very short memories, am assuming they are the same people who were telling us how shit B Smith was, but all of a sudden were creaming their pants that he re signed, (short memories).

That is most unfortunate. He was pretty much the best signing we could have made. The best laid plans and all that, I suppose

Probably the same people who were saying Smith is a weak link and shouldn't be in first grade and should retire, yet when he misses the first half of this season through injury he's a 'massive loss' and adds to the list of of excuses as to why we've performed so poorly so far this year.

I think it's interesting to know who we've missed out on. It's good to know what areas we are trying to strengthen and how successful our recruitment is.

Full credit for going after this young kid. Sounds like we were very close indeed.

I'm glad we're trying to chase the 'next' TRex/SBW type forward rather than blowing half our salary cap on one player. Smart recruitment if you can pull it off.

Putting $50 on a 100-1 Horse is a great bet... but only if you pull off the win. Otherwise it's just dead money.

It's all well and good to have a plan, but unless you are able to implement it (and in this case we're referring to convincing someone to come here), then it devalues the initial idea.

Even though i think Burty is past his best, id still take him in front of Talanoa any day. I think most people on here would.

Talanoa is a terrific finisher and knows the way to the try-line. But he has so many mistakes in his game that he`s just not worth the risk. Shame - he could have been a really good NRL winger.

If we're going after Souths rejects we should sign Faalago just so he can get into a punch up with the coach and get the latter sacked.

Surely whenever reasonable players come on the market there are at least 3 other clubs seriously interested and a few others vaguely interested. It can't therefore be surprising that any given club 'misses out' on more players than they end out signing. Clubs who never miss out are either a) cheating b) not aiming high enough or c) pay big overs and lose their own players (yeh, ok that sounds a bit like us I know).

Drawing a long bow, we've 'missed out' on every player at every other club.

I agree. He also has a knack of making some poor decisions.

I remember a lot of ads from the 80s, including 'Don't backchat me fella, I know boats' (we're the boat that the fat c##$ jumps into), "Aach Chum it's so Chumpy you could carve it" (we're the dog food), but most fondly of all the Toohey's add "Parra's coming back, Manly and Parra....." (we're the team who's coming back)
