Much like singing and chanting at a game, right? Too soccerish? I see it as simply, supporter-ish.

What other sport apart from Soccer has scarves? I don't even think AFL does it, well certainly not all holding them up like soccer.

What other sport sings and chats... all of them, bar like snooker (i was going to add darts and poker, but they even do that).

if your watching a game at canberra -2 celsius, your long johns on, and anything else to keep you warm, wouldn't your neck be the best place for a scarf.

I'd soon tell you a good spot to put your scarf

Cheers

AFL is all about the scarves.
Business men/women, trendy hipsters/rockers, average joes etc will quite often wear what they wear everyday of the week but throw on their teams' scarf to show their support.
No jersey no hat no flag - its all about the scarf. Though you are correct - its not so much a hold it up like soccer fans.

Honestly i dont get the whole 'holding a scarf' up thing.

well.

in ameeerrrica

they have towls. not scarves or flags. basically a team coloured hand towel that you twirl around.

its pretty weak

Ahhh - a Yakov joke!

Yeah started with Pittsburgh's 'Terrible Towels' I believe. Though i think theyre meant as a distraction to kickers/free throws etc rather than a show of support

I would rather pay $10 more for membership and get a reebok hat with the club logo and 2010 member written on it and a really good quality keyring.

our keyring history is as follows (from what i remember)

the 2007 - metal keyring looked good but scratched real bad
2008 - is my favorite the metal football ,but it weighed 8000kg and eventually broke off
2009 - boot was a good idea but fell apart
2010 - is terrible worst one yet, i got given a red boot on Sunday at the game and have swapped it already.
these are the best key rings 2004 metal boot
2005 flat metal ball
2006 metal Jersey
the key rings lacked quality when we asked 20% discount at the shop

I can see it already. The club announces we'll get a scarf next year, everyone gets excited, then they bring out an all-red scarf with that ghey Red V Member logo.

All the red v pack contents should have the red v logo AND the club logo.

Would people hold up the scarves?

Seems too soccerish for me.

I hold up my scarf if I don't have a banner.

Hmmm.. Lemme think...
A hill full of scarves being held up and not a flag or witty banner to be seen.
The colour and movement of they huge-ass custom made Dragon Army banners replaced by red strips of something unreadable on tv, on the field, and from the opposite stand.

Mate, huge flags and banners would rise above the scarfs. Imagine all the banners and flags like at the SFS, but then everyone else with a scarf up. It would look great.

In theory, yes.

But the way I figure it - everyone who wants to show off, show support etc, has a flag and uses it.
I doubt that there are those, who are currently apathetic beyond the clapping and cheering side of support, in the numbers that you are hoping for to get the soccer effect across.

But I am still in support of the scarf in the pack

Wait there's a game of footy included in the membership package?
It must be in the front pocket of the bag...
