Hope that this exposure results in some TPA's coming our way.
To be on an equal footing with other clubs we really need them.
we can never have as many brown paper bags as teams like melb, donkeys, rorters ....will never be a level playing field .......

The James Frizelle car dealership network ( now one of the biggest in Australia) are locked in with the Titanettes here on the Coast. They, like Rorters / Politis, can offer / hide, TPA's throughout his dealerships but our Dragons seemedly can offer squat.

They use to have Dominelle Ford at one stage, along with Newmans Mitzibishi of Kogarah, just local small time dealers at the time.

As Politis often states in his own way, "we manage our cap better than most."

Our problem demonstrates a lack of getting the right people in to manage our club better.

We just give, 'jobs for the old boys' right throughout the club.

All jokes aside, we should be rhe most marketable club going round.

That's great that the marketing people are expanding into other area's.
But here in the local St. George area there is little or nil advertising for the red v. I live in Blakehurst and I see more advertising for the sharks and bunnies than the dragons.
Anyone living in wollongong is there much done there?
I'm down there 2 or 3 time a week don't notice it much.

our history alone should be bringing in more revenue than it doe's, but in saying that we do seem to be one of the most stable clubs with sponsors.

Jak
I agree we seem to get sponsors well.
But if course tpa are different .
Of course tpa can not be sponsors eg win, St George Bank ect.
So we need to do more

I guess jak this is what I'm asking. What do we market and what are we trying to achieve through that marketing?

From memory we've discussed this a while ago in here. I think there are 2 sides to it:

  1. Marketing the club by the club
  2. Using the club as marketing for an external business/organisation
I don't see the club marketing being able to stand out from any other club. Sure, we have 11 in a row, but what makes that any better than Souths? They're a foundation club and have the most premierships. What about Melbourne and Brisbane? They are both one town teams, have dominated in recent decades and are the most consistent as well as arguably producing some of the best league stars in recent times. Personally I don't think the 11 in a row stands out any more than what other clubs can claim to sell. At least for me, I can't see how winning 11 premierships over 50 years ago would entice a shite load of people to follow the club or generate any sort of extra revenue.

As for the marketing for external businesses, these sorts of things depend mainly on individuals and the reputation of the club. If I owned a business, I would investigate options to use the club or players for marketing - but this would only be because I follow the club. Outside of your local area (in this case the Gong), I would imagine it would be rare that you would use the club to market your business. Individuals maybe different, but again, it would probably rely heavily on individuals and where players grew up. It seems businesses are far more likely to use players that grew up in the region rather than source players from somewhere else. And this would be focussed on the individual moreso than the club.

I personally don't think "marketability" in league is a huge thing. I'm not a marketing person and probably looking at it all wrong but as a layman, I just can't see how it would make any difference. And given league doesn't have a huge international presence, marketing on a larger scale doesn't seem to make sense.

11 in a row was never achieved by any professional sports organization anywhere in the world ....probably amateur or junior either....that's why Queensland was dirty they only managed 8 in a row :joy::joy:

Not denying it's a great and most likely unrepeatable achievement, but I don't see it as being marketable to a point where it makes us stand out. I mean, what does that mean in the grand scheme of things? What have we done in the 50 years since? Not a whole heap.

Excellent analysis
The 11 in a row is so many generations ago it has lost relevancy in regrads to marketing and in fact led to us being hated by many and that hatred is still evident in some circles today and in some cases the hate is larger than the adulation
The length of time it took for Provan to be recognised is testimony to that.
Our success in 77 & 79 is also not relevant to the new generations and is just something for the 40 & 50 year old supporters to remember from their youth.
We have to hang our hat on more recent achievements and that is part of the problem.
