Brisbane 2nd team is a no brainer, cause some say Brisbane is the centre of the earth for rugby league . , its a f**king joke and disgrace, and the big fat joke is on everybody except the broncos ,, been crying out for a 2nd team for 20 years, broncos have been laughing there heads off ever since , this explains why broncos are so f**ked up in results , they , up there own ass, they run and own, Brisbane , if only south Queensland crushers was still around playing in ARL NRL , this Brisbane mess would not be here in this day , when the 2nd Brisbane team is formed, you watch the broncos go into overdrive extracting there 2 heads out there ass, then 2 more teams latter, Adelaide, Perth and thats it my footy heads, and thats the real deal :p

if only it was true.
Annual revenue growth
Afl growth in revenue 2013-2019 = $356.1mill
Nrl growth in revenue 2013-2019 = $225.1mill

the revenue gap widens every year. Maybe selling a ninth game will help close the gap?

You seem to want to ignore the fact That the NRL commission was set up just 8 years ago. the AFL's 35 years ago.

And if it helps at all after the ARLC first year revenue was $180m. Since then they have grow more than three fold, (555m) ! While the AFL(over the same 8 years) revenue has barely increased 80%.

none of which hides the fact the revenue between the codes is widening year on year. Youve cherry picked dates there choosing the year before the tv cycle, if you look at the tv cycles afl has increased its annual revenue from 2013 to 2019 significantly more than nrl. Yes we’ve done a good job catching up on the lost years of conflicted ownership to get to over $500mill but in the same time afl’s has grown to nearly $800mill! The gap is getting wider not getting smaller. Surely with independent ownership we could expect the gap to be diminishing?

Red, Silver, Gold and White
A little bit derivative of the broncos colors but not by much, trying to get that simalarity with the cowboys colors but replacing the navy with red, but still keeping with the Red, Silver as their main colors, while gold and white as the trim or secondary, the golden sun representing the sunshine coast

The NRL's Revenue increase was greater than the AFL's in 2019 just as it was in 2018. So try again.

Redcliffe Dolphins chairman Bob Jones says the club’s brand is so strong it will generate support from across the nation if given a license as a second Brisbane team in the NRL.

With an extra team in Brisbane a potential option for 2023 at the start of the next broadcast deal, the Dolphins are also preparing to talk to Wayne Bennett about his coaching intentions when his tenure at Souths finishes at the end of 2021.

The critics of the Dolphins' bid point to how they are based on a peninsula north of Brisbane, similar to the location of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in Sydney, and would not garner the support of the Brisbane and wider public.

Jones told NRL.com the club would draw its support from across the state and beyond.

"We will be a brand for all of Australia, and for Queensland and south-east Queensland in particular,” Jones told NRL.com as he watched the crowd roll in for the trial between the Titans and Broncos at Dolphin Stadium on Saturday night.

"The Broncos aren’t just a Brisbane brand. There are people all over the country that follow them. I come from a country town in NSW where a lot of people follow the Broncos."

We will be a brand for all of Australia, and for Queensland and south-east Queensland in particular

Bob Jones
The strong connection the Queensland public feel towards the Dolphins' brand was evidenced by a marketing study done 15 years ago.

"The Titans wanted to call themselves the Dolphins initially and we didn’t want them to obviously," Jones said.

"We got a marketing company to do some research and the Broncos was the No.1 brand in Queensland, the Lions were going well at the time in the AFL and they came in second and we finished ahead of the Bulls, the Reds and the basketball boys [the Brisbane Bullets].

"At the time we didn’t understand how powerful the brand was ourselves. It gave us a lot of confidence actually."

As for whether the NRL team is called the Brisbane Dolphins, Queensland Dolphins or the Redcliffe Dolphins, Jones said that was immaterial.

"It will just be ‘the Dolphins’. I am an old Eastern Suburbs man but no-one calls them that anymore. They are just the Roosters," he said.

"Everyone knows we are from Redcliffe and that is where our training base will be initially.

"After Super League the Sydney clubs went away from marketing themselves after suburbs. You don’t hear Manly Warringah much anymore. They are the Sea Eagles, but we will be known as the Dolphins. That is our brand."

Bennett has come out publicly and stated the Dolphins were the leading candidate of all the expansion bids in Brisbane. Jones confirmed the Dolphins would be keen to talk to him as a prospective coach.

"Wayne is an icon of the game and a smart guy and I think he really nailed it," Jones said.

"He’s had lots of success and if Wayne is available and wants to keep going you’d be crazy not to consider him.

"It might not be as the coach. It might be in some other role. I’ve known Wayne for a long time and everyone knows he’s a good fella and highly respected in rugby league."

The Dolphins boast training facilities many NRL clubs would be proud of and a home stadium that will seat 10,000 when an extra stand is added in August.

"On a weekly basis we’ll attract a lot more people than that and while we might play a couple of games here the rest would be at Suncorp Stadium, and the aim would be to fill it," Jones said.

"For us our bid is a no-brainer. We tick most of the boxes. We probably don’t tick all of them but none of the bids will.

"We are yet to have any dialogue with the new boss of the Commission [Peter V’landys] but hopefully that will happen shortly. I hear lots of good things about him, that he is a go-getter and wants to make [expansion] happen and that is encouraging for us and for the game.

"We’ve been talking about our bid for at least 10 years and we've been building our club with the view that we would like to be in the NRL at some stage, and it is looking imminent. As long as we are here it will always be the goal of our club’s leadership to play at the highest level."

and at that rate we will have caught them up in 20 years lol.

Maybe, But if they take on a debt making side at this point in time it could be 40 years, and 50 before there in a position to expand again. So yeah, there covering all bases and there covering them thoroughly. I cant see a problem with that!

The one argument against the Dolphins that supporters of other Queensland cup teams will not support them is pretty weak right? There just cannot be that many passionate supporters of Queensland cup in Brisbane. In NSW 95% of rugby league fans just don't care a hoot about the NSW cup teams.
So provided they play out of Suncorp I am fine with the Dolphins.

It isn't just the fans of Queensland cup teams though. The Dolphins run teams from under 6s right up to the Queensland club.

On average anybody that is part of a club/team that plays against them is going to be inclined to have a negative opinion of them, and one of the main target audiences that any new Brisbane club should be targeting are those people at the grassroots that are currently playing against the Dolphins, whom are the cashed up club that everybody loves to hate.

Thanks a lot. I thought I had my opinion sorted out. Now this.

This bloke is bloody delusional.

By the way, doesn't it seem like sometimes journalists get their talking points and ideas for articles from reading forums like this one.

I mean that article above basically ripped everything that's been discussed about the Dolphins on here.

Yeah nothing he said addressed doubt that they will be the Brisbane equivalent of Manly Sea Eagles (except that they will play at Suncorp).

He also doesn't understand that just because people recognise your brand doesn't mean that they like it or would be inclined to support it.

His study is also 15 years old, the landscape has changed a hell of a lot since then.

Which means they are better than manly already, since the sea eagles and they're fans don't like to travel, i remembered the 2018 finals, where they got upset that they had to play at the SFS, seriously!! At least dolphins stadium is 40 mins away and they're quite happy to play home games at Suncorp (even if they are saying this for a licence tho, but still nice to hear)

Just because they will play games down in Suncorp doesn't necessarily mean the fans of Redcliffe will travel down the Bruce Hwy in peak hour traffic on a Friday night to watch the Dolphins play. In fact it could mean it will isolate the dolphins even more (a la Manly).... I think they'd be better off going for a brand new franchise based out of the city or inner West but only playing out of Suncorp.
