I like Moreton Bay Dolphins also. I prefer a less encompassing nomenclature, regardless of the broader reach of a clubs territory.

I can see the argument for using Brisbane Dolphins, but having 2 clubs using the same name may or may not be welcomed by the NRL’s marketing department. Meh, not a huge issue.

Maybe a compromise along the lines of “Brisbane-Moreton Dolphins”. Includes the big city appeal and the narrower territorial significance.

Getting a bit long in syllables, but we can already have St George-Illawarra Dragons, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. An abbreviation would be found.

On a related front, I found this on Facebook Dolphins page. A mock-up jersey from The Concept Lab. It looks the goods to me.

The rumoured secondary color is a dark gold, not sure charcoal will be added, for me it should be red, white, gold and grey similar to the cowboys, just red instead of navy...
Also that V shaped jersey looks exactly like the Adelaide Rams '99 design just with the colors replaced

Not sure it has much national brand appeal tbh. Who outside of brisbane and rl has heard of moreton bay? Most would associate it with bugs!
As long as they carry the Dolphins brand it won't matter what you name them. They're not going to build broad appeal across Brisbane for a generation or more (by which time other regions will have their own teams), let alone nationally, so they may as well double down on their niche market appeal.

The only hope of them appealing to a broader market en masse in the short to mid term is if they become the next dynasty club that dominates a generation. Obviously that's long odds of happening, it's not sustainable, and it's a terrible business and marketing strategy to be banking on that sort of success to sell your club.

Moreton Bay Bugs would make a great brand BTW.

The NRL Bid apparel seems to be predominantly black-red-white, a tinge of gold on some stuff....

Yeah.. kinda funny, given how relocating the Bears inter-state was a popular proposal a few years ago.

I even remember when the Titans were for sale, the Bears were talked about as a potential buyer - for a rebrand to the red & black Gold Coast Bears.

Well, we could NOW be seeing red & black come back into the NRL .. but not a Bear in sight!

Nice colours, but would have looked better with a skull and cross bones on them!

Would have been better if they'd gone grey/silver, bright red and white
then perth could have still used scarlet red, gold and black.

We could still go scarlet red, with the black and yellow of our state colours I suppose.

It'll be interesting to see what the mix is on their jersey - whether the burnt gold is a major part or a small bit on the trim (akin to the Cowboys with yellow).

One way or the other they're getting close to Bears & Pirates territory...

Which really doesn't matter, since both don't have a 1st grade license, and most likely won't for another decade or so....
.... or ever
Yep, and fair point - even the most hardened "Bring back the Bears" Norths fan surely accepts the odds are remote (if not zero).. and Perth advocates have openly acknowledged that "regime change" at NRL HQ may be needed to put them above a 5th Queensland club or 2nd NZ club for that 18th spot.

Redcliffe have played the long game brilliantly - and you're right, getting that golden ticket before the other hopefuls gives them the chance to cast their own NRL identity... and whoever comes in next has to work around it.

If 'play the long game brilliantly' means having News preselect you for expansion because they think you'll be the least competitive with the Broncos and have the least impact on the value of broadcasting rights, then yeah they've played it brilliantly...

Redcliffe Dolphins revealed as ‘preferred candidate’ for 17th NRL team
The organisation boasts $70 million worth of assets and has $20 million in cash reserves, putting it in the position to be one of the richest clubs in the NRL.
Wonder what happened to the $100mil in assets lol?

Redcliffe's whole selling point was that they were loaded, but these new numbers would put Easts ahead of them with $80mil in assets and $20 mil in cash reserves as well.

Seems like the media and/or the Dolphins are telling furphies, guess it doesn't matter when nobody is paying attention though...

Funny as frick that we’ve been discussing how the nrl may announce this, HT at tne grand final maybe, or make a big deal of it at a Launch in brisbane, create some excitement and hype hopefully, and instead it is leaked and reported by Ch9 and fox before nrl even announce it! So Rugby League! Guess this is part of the nrls new strategy not to break any news lol.

Tony sage has assets of around $800milllion. Western quokkas next then lol
surely if we are counting owners net worth as the richness of a club then broncos win with news ltd as owners?

I suppose keeping it until after the season was completed, gives some clickbait in the off season, at the moment there's heaps of articles now about marquee signings regarding the 17th club, under Bennett...
Cody walker, Munster, Ponga etc
