vlandys was always going to do what’s best for news ltd first and foremost.

let’s take a look:
choose the club that’s least competition for broncos regardless of it’s what best for the comp tick

hand back the digital arm to news ltd in return for less money than the digital arm is generating tick

take broncos off fta so it drives up kayo Subscriptions without consulting the fta providers your negotiating a new deal with tick

I wonder what nsw racing is gaining from all these favours?

Mate working in News's interests is one thing, but intentionally picking the least commercially competitive option, and thus crippling your own product for short term gain, is a whole other level of stupid.

You can't just blame him for it either, the majority of the ARLC and clubs must be signing off on it as well.

To be fair V'landys' decision making is par for the course as far as News Corp are concerned. These are the same guys that mandate all their presenters are vaccinated while having them go on TV and calling it a myth.

They're dumbasses.

Makes you wonder how the dolphins are putting up $10mill a year for 5 years when they only made $614k profit pre tax?

TBF, that's only their leagues club's profit and it's covid effected.

It's still a lot less than you'd expect considering how much has been made of their wealth though.

Maybe they have a big cash reserve? Be interesting to see their financial report.

In theory V'landys doesn't work for News and isn't meant to be representing their interest though.
Although he doesn't reflect their views or interest, he would love to broker expansion and not have the league pay for it, and if news ltd are footing the bill, and choosing the bid etc, atleast they aren't getting in the ARLCs way, ala another Sth Qld Crushers vs Broncos monopoly... which will only end up in failing to expand the comp in SEQ...
As unfair and as bad as it is to stomach the way News ltd has influence over the comp, atleast Vdog has used them to push Expansion and broadcasters in the NRLs favour, and not ended up fighting an impossible fight for expansion vs not only the existing clubs, but also against News Ltd... all these factions could have easily caused headaches all round, and kept the comp stagnate.
This proves that getting NRL to expanding to 17 teams will eventually get the comp to 18, and give another incentive to gain more dollars to sell a 9th weekly game, hopefully gaining support to increase to 19 teams do it all over again for a 20th and 10th game... which then will get interesting if they want to persue conferences to go beyond 20 teams or cull any existing clubs for spots to fill in areas unrepresented by the league.... or relocations... which will be 20 years from now... which then we probably won't care by then or clubs will fall away by how inept they are at running a business

I heard they have some assets, public gym, pool, shopping centre....
Yes they have a strong asset base but that would mean them selling it off if the nrl club got in trouble. I doubt their assets are generating the $10mill a year profit to cover the nrls ask? Probably just something the nrl has put out to make the other clubs feel safer that we won’t get another Titans/knights scenario.
