The only other option would to play at another venue,BUT WHERE?Looks like we are stuck with MES.Remember that there is the corporate sponser to consider (corporate boxes etc...)South Perth & North Beach would be ok venues,I'm sure it would not cost the WARL $7000.00,also being a smaller venue you could be closer to the action creating a better atmosphere.

Leederville Oval, Lathlain Oval, these have been used for RL games before.

the reason MES is used is because the WARL wishes to show a professional approach by demonstrating that we have a decent sized stadium to play out of to the NRL.
and just playing occasional games there doesnt demonstrate we have that. it just demonstrates we arent very serious and theres one we can get to occasionally but we are happy to just play at local grounds because thats where JBcup usualy gets played, instead of aiming for something bigger.

I have only gone to the day games and not the night games for this reason.

I think most of the games are held on Saturday nights is because the other teams have to fly back on the Sunday,because of work commitments.Its a catch 22 situation Saturday night games you have WARL games ( in the arvo)Sunday arvo games would clash with the juniors.

Would they get more people to a sunday afternon comapared to a night game? Its a bit more family friendly, especially on cold nights.

I have only gone to the day games and not the night games for this reason.

sunday arvo might be more 'family friendly' but its also at the time when its harder for families to get there, due to junior games

I'd prefer switching the WARL games to a Sunday afternoon and playing the Reds game on a Saturday 4pm kick off.

TBH $7,000 for the hire of MES isn't bad I don't think. The ARL have given us a grant of $200,000 so we can hardly complain but some NRL support wouldn't go a miss.

I would be interested to know what crowds the WARL thought they would get. I was anticipating around 2,000 so not far off. For next year they need to make the season memberships a lot more attractive. I have missed one game because of work committments and that basically means I am now paying more for a season membership than I am if I paid on the gate each week.

Exactly. When you go to a Reds game next, buy that NSWRL programme ($3), and have a look at the crowds the Jim Beam Cup gets in Sydney - a crowd of 300 is on the larger end of the scale. The WA Reds crowds of 1,700 is astronomical in comparison. That being said, casual Rugby League (and sport in general) supporters aren't that interested in going to Jim Beam Cup games in Perth. If it was NRL games, especially a Perth team playing in the NRL, you would see crowds of 17,000 in attendance. I'll be honest: The Reds don't excite me. I was pumped after their fightback and last minute win last weekend, and they have done that to me a few times in their existence thus far, but as I whole, I'm not that excited about them. I do know that the hard yards have to be done right now as fans in order for us to have our own NRL team. I don't make a lot of money, working in aged care as I do, but I've spent quite a bit on things like memberships (2007, 2008), WA Reds jersey, (petrol on coming to the games every home game!!!) ect, and will continue to do so because I know it all helps and makes a difference. I am a very patient person, and I can see the work and money being put in now and in the future will pay off. I would personally feel kinda embarrassed and guilty if I did nothing, didn't go to games, spread the word, ect, and the WA Reds gain entry into the NRL and then start supporting them.

Each game -including the 2 pre-season games at North Beach- I have brought at the very least one other person with me. The most to one game was 4 others + myself. The game against Mounties the other week, I brought along a union fan who was sitting around twiddling his thumbs because his sport's season had finished.

That would make sense, but WARL players wouldn't then be able to go out after the games and drink because they'd have work the next day! They couldn't go out on Saturday nights because they'd have to play the following day! We can't have that! Rugby League is a social and drinking culture -WA Rugby League is definitely no exception to that!. Sure the players could go out and have a few (or a few too many!) on the Friday night instead, but it wouldn't be quite the same as after-game drinks - either celebrating a win, or trying to put a loss behind them. It just wouldn't be the same.

Remember the big picture guys, our aim is the QLD cup in a couple of years.So we will just have to weather the storm and do the best we can,it's our first season so problems will happen.If we don't make the finals (which I doubt) we have had that first season under our belt,on which we can build on for next season.

That's exactly right.
The first season was never about winning games on the field and making finals, ect. It was about establishing a team in the WA market, gaining supporters, sponsors, corporate support, ect.

Anything else was a bonus.

After reading your story i feel very bad, i'm only down the road working from the games, i went to the first few and really enjoyed them, but if i didn't work i wouldn't be able to enjoy myself, i'll definately come down to june 28th game, my birthday the day before, so i'll bring along some family and friends.

That's what I'm saying: I don't doubt for a minute that you'd be at the games (most, if not all) if you weren't working at the times they're playing. You gotta make a living though! Like you said, if you didn't work, you wouldn't have the money to be able to go to the games or whatever anyway.

yeh times are tough for some, esp students hahah, but i would like nothing more than nrl to come to perth, i know its a forum and your only a username and anything any1 says may be untrue, none of u even know if alehana is my real name, i dont doubt any of the WARL people on this thread, and i know i'm not the most dedicated fan compared to people like Nuke (aka Luke (i'm guessing)) mainly cause its so hard without a car to get anywhere, and i chose the worst job for times as a fricken glassie, but i try hard to make it up when games arn't on, i'm always asking my mates to come to a game, but they love afl, so the times i have gone are with my dad, the point is we should (and i'm the number 1 culprit here) try our hardest to get to games, but also do our bit off the field if we are in a position to do so, ie (bit extreme but isaw it on tv) if u own a resturant hold a fundraiser for warl or something, even the little things such as talk league to some1 who u know doesn't likes league much will help in a small way, but i know i've gotta step up my game cause i feel as tho i'm letting u guys down and thats not right, i think thats what the letter is saying.

I don't think the letter was aimed at us mate. We do what we can when we can - you can't ask for more than that. well i shouldn't think it be aimed at u cause ur their number 1 supporter, but i personally felt it was aimed at me (cause i'm no where near the supporter u have been) but yeh true about the ppl who havent got behind them when they play the game, i dont know any, but the chances of it happening are there,
