(pretty sure the pies they sold at the kiosk a couple of weeks ago were around when this pic was taken too..)

i still have one of the old entry tokens from when i went there in the 90's.. has a greyhound on it..
Western grandstand was built in two stages but wasn't actually that ancienty IIRC. 50's or 60's origin

f**k, I remember playing on that field outside the stadium (which is where the athletics track is now) and also doing athletics in the main ground.

And that old portable grandstand at the northern end.

Beautiful Orana Park.
Look at the old Leagues Club in that photo. Looks like an old shack.
It's a bit bigger these days.

On the topic of this photo of Jason Taylor from the Magpies that someone here posted, remember when....

1) balls used to have the seam/stitches, as seen in that photo (SL season in 1997 was the first RL ball that removed them IIRC)

2) goalkickers used to do conversions/penalty goals with the ball upright and seam facing towards the posts, instead of the near 45-degree angle they place the kicks today. Why did goalkickers change to placing the ball on a near 45 degree angle? That is something that has always perplexed me. Being not a goalkicker myself, I never understood what advantage you would gain from that.

3) goalkickers used sand instead of kicking-tees for conversions/penalty goals, sometimes chewing up nearly another minute in the process!

I seriously can't believe that is Campbelltown sports ground amazing to think how much has changed. I remember watching highlights from the game in 1996 when the Magpies kicked that field goal on the last play on halfway to make the finals and i had to do a double take when they said it was being played at Wests.

When a ball is passed, it is best thrown with the end pointing towards the recipient for a flatter / more aerodynamic pass. I guess the same applies with kicking - send it end first so it is less likely to travel off course & more likely to go further.

In regards to the sand, I wish they would bring it back...for some uncertainty with the goal-kicks. Like everything in Rugby League these days, a tee makes goal-kicking too predictable & boring.

He was a double hard bastard - Broadhurst is a real favourite of mine, but underrated me thinks

My old man used to go on and on about how tough Broadhurst was and how great of a fighter he was. I was disappointed when I saw the footage of Bowden belting the crap outta him.
