I have a story from this era. I was in a band, we played a gig at the Tattersalls Pub in Lithgow. Late that night in between sets the manager introduces us to his mate David Peachey. Peachey was in town watching the local league GF's. He had had a few (but was nice and well behaved etc). An hour later we finish another set and we sit down with the manager and Peachey again. By this stage Peach is shitfaced (but still nice, polite & well behaved). We play our last set and at the end the manager pours Peach into a taxi at 2am. I have to stress not a single issue, it was a good night. I also didnt think twice about Peachey being there at 2am or having a few beers because at the time I thought he was injured.

Band sleeps at the hotel and I race home in the morning, pick up my kids and my dad to race out to Leichhardt to watch Tigers V Souffs. Look at the Big League and I am shcked to see Peachey, D slated for the 1 jesrey. I tell my dad there is no hope he is playing. Sure enough out he runs. Tigers towel up a pathetic Souffs 52-18 but to give him his due, Peachey was their best.
A mate of mines was at Wests Leagues Club one Saturday night watching Garry Jack demolishing double scotches like there was no tomorrow.

Trouble is it was tomorrow. About 2am, Jack leaves the club bouncing off every wall on the way out.

Balmain canes whoever they were playing and Jack gets MOM!

The other team must have stayed out till 4 am.

Greg Hartley sending off Ray Price and John Grey, also Peter Sterling playing fullback and also a replay of the semi mid week after Parra and Manly were locked up 13-13 a few days earlier.

Manly had to play six games in 24 days (including two replays) and somehow managed to hold the trophy up against the Sharks. I think the GF replay score was 16-0.

When they brought back City/Country in 2001, there were some young players in both sides that eventually played Origin and tests within a couple of years.

City- Gasnier, Minichello, Wing,
Country- Buderus, Tahu, Ryles, Fitzgibbon, Simpson

I would stay we got completely ripped off in that game, but I guess we were rorting the cap so all was equal

I was at that grand final, and really hoping for a Storm win (it was not until later we all learned to hate the Storm...). I thought they were very unlucky, Brisbane got so many calls in their favour, and even as a non Storm fan I was very frustrated.

Years later and looking back, I'm so glad the Broncos won...

Hopefully with the Eels punishment done and dusted, I can naively hope the comp may actually not be affected by rorting the cap, for the first time in 15 or so years.
