The good news is that Caltex is pulling its name from Australian shores and we are going back to Ampol.

We won’t be seeing Holden around for too much longer I’d say. They used to make good cars that people wanted a long time ago.

I had a few Commodores in their hey day.

Good in some areas, bad in others. I didn’t discriminate and had a few falcons as well. So Bathurst never worried me.

The falcons were better to drive but had other issues.

Cars are a trade off.

For the kids, we had full driveway service stations.

theyd fill your tank, check your tyres, check your oil and radiator. Washer wiper, clean your windows- inside and out.. Smile and be nice at you

Youd sit there like a prince or princess. I mean they would be seriously offended if you did anything.

You’d pay cash from your drivers seat and the man would run in and get you exact change. You could also pick up a can of tab cola if they sold them.

They werent convenience stores, they were service stations. They sold oil and car stuff only. It was right.

And if you gave them a tip, some of them would refuse. I mean they didn’t expect a tip.

They were just frigging happy you had a good experience and they would always smile and wave you goodbye.

Now you often get someone who barely acknowledges you exist. Like you’ve wrecked their day keeping them off welfare.

Seatbelts were optional, having a few beers for the road was commonplace, everyone ashed and most people couldn’t be bothered with ashtrays and threw butts outside and hoped it didn’t go through an open window.

Was in Augusta Western Australia last year visiting Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse and when coming back decided to fill up at the local BP at Augusta and was totally surprised when an attendant came out and we got drive thru service ( well getting the car filled up and the windows washed anyway ) totally amazing and unexpected in 2018 and the service was lovely and genuine. Still got Virgin velocity points too.

And cops.

They were the f**king law.

They were massive and you so much as got pissed and were rude to them, you could be bashed senseless. They had techniques.

You had to be genuinely fearful because they could make up any story they wanted and they did and it was three cops v you. One of the cops wasn’t even there.

Most bad boys they sorted, but the odd super-feral or bikie would have drugs and all kinds of crap planted on them.

Going to gaol back in the day, you had to be very tough to survive it without a bad injury. It changed people usually for the worse.

The cops had a saying that that they “ never stitched up anyone who didn’t deserve it” that’s true kids. That’s the way it was.

These days the police are better policed. It’s a better force, lawlessness is moderated. Still a few dickheads but they are in every occupation.

In the old days, Highway patrol would let normal cops off. Not these days. Perks just aren’t there anymore.

Awesome. I’d almost drive over there to get that.

People were more genuine. Kids could walk the streets without being abducted or raped by a psychopath who they cant find a spot for in an asylum.

We’ve lost a lot of good things over the years....

But there are some good things. The Samoans next door to us, they are nice people and good neighbours. The odd party, but they invite us over.

Back in the day it was a potential nuclear test site or something.

EH holden’s, we had like 3, marbles, basketball cards, the ridiculous phone card collecting craze that went through our school, the f**ken ecstatic feeling I had when the folks said we were getting Chinese food for dinner, going down to toy world to look at all the shit my parents could never afford, the bloody the board game “hero quest”, eating casserole’s, games of cricket with my brother who always lost interest once I got him out so meant 90% of the times we played was me bowling, still blame him for me being a shit batsman but a pretty handy bowler, the broncos actually being good and winning premierships.

Sorry guys got on a bit of a roll there.
