Just how high do the Sunday Channel 9 games rate anyway?

delayed telecast in this day and age is so antiquated

Only 320k or so, barely more than the ALeague GF delayed ratings on SBS2.

The ratings are OK from memory but they don't make much from the advertising. They would prefer for the game to be played at 4 so they can show it live

If the Kiwis scrap the mid season test, the NZRl will have to scrap the National Provincial Championship, the National Schools Championship, the NZ Residents tours etc etc.

People, this is how the NZRL makes money to run the local game. NZRL does not ahve the NRL television deal to pump millions into the local game. It has total revenue if around $6 mill. About the same as the ARL commission spend on morning tea at Phillip Street!

The test is IMPORTANT....end of broken record.

BTW, its rated about a million viewers. More than the Bloodyslow series ever achieves, ever.

Spot on, the benefits to the grass-roots or the hosts holding these events is greater than not doing nothing.
There is more to life than Origin, which still is having trouble selling out in Brisbane.
Somebody screwed up i think. Greed raised it's ugly head again.

Whiting Fifita and Mead all look like Origin material, along with Hoppa.
The game was pretty good quality.

Probably could have worded my comment better. Although I don't think the game is a true "trial" the are a few obviously in the frame for selection to Origin. I more meant guys like Moylan, Rochow etal getting a shot in a rep team. I agree the game was of a high quality.

As long as there are no Roosters players involved in "rep weekend" then I don't care if it stays it goes. I voted No because I'm sure a few players will make Island teams again and I don't want them getting injured and missing real football

When did Boyd Cordner leave the Roosters?

For someone who claims to have no interest in rep footy, you sure do post a lot about it.

Comprehension fail or what? The OP says "do you want it back next year" that's why I said what I said.

Play it at the end of the year instead.

Tonearm Terrorwrist narrow minded view. If we all think like you the game would only have Sydney teams.

Such a blinkered point of view! Growing the sport of Rugby League Internationally will only strengthen the NRL not damage it.

We have to remember that the NZRL draw much-needed funds from test matches and more Internationals for the PI teams will be an incentive for players to choose those nations rather than holding on for a glimmer of hope that they may make Origin.

While I'm not a fan of City v Country, it does promote the game in country areas which is much needed.

The point being debated isn?t whether we should get rid of international football, it is whether we should stop our comp a third of the way through for a rep weekend.

Yes we need to try and grow test football but let?s do it at the right time.

How does stopping the comp for one weekend hinder it in any way? If we put more resources and effort into growing and promoting an international break, it is something to look forward to every year as a highlight on the rugby league calender!

Except we don’t look forward to it and I can’t imagine a majority of footy fans looking forward to Aus/NZ and CvC and any number of other internationals over a full round of NRL.

I can however see them accepting a 3 week break for origin (which people actually care about) in which period you can have this ‘festival’ of rep footy and not endanger the integrity of the NRL by having teams being forced to field under strength sides during origin.

here's an easy solution, the NRL could have one give with a 2pm kick off Sunday, shown live on Fox and the second game live on Sunday at 4pm, live on Channel 9.

Why is the game persisting with a 3pm timeslot when it knows its to the disadvantage of the game only?

No idea and the 4pm Sunday kickoff won't really affect crowd numbers either IMO. 9 wants the game live at 4pm, people watching at home want to watch the match live, it is such an easy solution yet they still haven't implemented it
