Replacing Packer...

Packer four year 3m deal tigers paid was way over his worth.
I have been watching him closely last few weeks and for the limited minutes he plays his intensity drops off and on.
Vaughn is the one.
I wouldn't be too upset over his loss if it was just him. But we also lose Duges.
On the short term Duges and for all his ball playing shortfalls is the one we'll miss. He is an inspirational player and every team needs one.
Maybe Hunt may fill that void?

Rocket agree with you.
We will miss duges we can cover packer but not duges at this stage

People are kidding in this forum.

Packer should have been in a long term deal in our favor for the chance we took and we should have exercised that option before a ball was kicked this year.

We took all the risks and all the effort to return him to NRL and we left the door wide open for him to leave as soon as he started to show the glimpse of the talent we all knew he had.

Club management is just so dumb at the dragons - I hate dumb leadership.
Yes mate I agree with you, he should've been locked up on an all our way contract. But he wasn't ... big mistake !
We are used to big mistakes aren't we Bird, Merrin,Morris, and waste of money Benji.
Nevertheless at the beginning of this year there wasn't anyone that we wanted in our squad based on last years form. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
IMO he is not worth "fullback" money which is what the tigers are paying him

I like the Idea of someone like Blair for two years until the young props are ready. The fact that Illawarra have been beaten soundly a few times this year says to me that maybe some players need more time. But this is only going on scores and reports because i haven't seen them play . I know i will get shot down for this but i would sound out one of the Burgess Twins and see if soufs would let one go and see if a change of club is exactly what they need to recapture form.

Once Millward makes a decision on a player, it becomes very hard to change that decision. His decisions last for seasons no matter how well a player plays or fits into a position.

agree with possm if we are going after a prop he needs to be dare i say better than packer. we then need to get more impact off the bench somebody that can bend the line back so we do have good rotation . we lose so much once vaughan and packer both come off msybe host for sele ? But lets hope we do get a better prop than packer at least that will be a start

if I had to choose between Packer and Dugan I would choose Packer. Can't believe we let him go.
Would Hunt come here on a four year contract. You could say we paid overs for him.
Hunt gets 10 years. That is to long for any players.

Agnatius Paasi from the Titans is the man they should look at. Throw the kitchen sink at this bloke. Better than Packer.
Is he off contract? I imagine Millward will now wait for the salary cap confirmation before signing a prop hoping to pick up someone from a club that is over the cap.

Yep. Plays plenty of minutes and mixes it up with hard work. Possesses a passing game with good footwork. Would definitely be a good signing

Zane Tetavano might be a good buy he runs hard and he gave us afew problems when we played the roosters. Might be reasonable cheap

I'll miss Packer but out of curiosity is a prop worth that sort of money? Can't help thinking that the money we payed for Hunt has escalated into a feeding frenzy.

It has to be Paasi or NAS. We need a hard-nut up front with half his brain missing who will just run hard, not a flashy forward like Blair.

My sentiments exactly Tom . Where would any team be without that one ' tough as teak 'prop , and as you have so adeptly described - " with half his brain missing " .

These are the type of fellows that most genuine premiership contenders require , if they are to have a real chance of holding the trophy , come Grand Final day . We simply cannot do without them ! You only need to look at the Bullgrubs - Klemmer , Rorters - J.W.H . Sharks - Fifita - Broncos - Blair , etc. etc. , the NRL is full of those bluudy ' half brainers ' , so why don't we go and sign one up ?

Therefore Mr. Millward , I say unto you ( on behalf of all true Dragon supporters ) go forth young man and cast your net far and wide in search of that ' half brainer ' so as we here , at the Big Red V , may also be one of those true Grand Final contenders !

The replacement for Packer is becoming very interesting. Two ways to look at it IMO.
1: Do you sign a young prop forward like Passi or NAS or Tetavano which effectively would block our own youngsters progress for three years or more? or,
2: Do we go for Blair for one or two years just to fill in the blank while our youngsters get ready?

With LAM the closest prop we have to the end of his contract we obviously havs a choice of not re-signing him and going with point 1 above. However, if he's performing well, and this year has lifted his game, then why wouldn't you re-sign him? So then point 2 applies.
The other issue, I think, is wether Sims is really a prop. I don't think it suits him to be honest, he has more impact as an edge forward, again IMO.
