I think that needs to be up to the coach. If you want to stack your side with older, established guys, you're doing so at the expense of your future.

You may do really well for a season or two, but you'll inevitably experience a down period when they take a beating in the ratings and those who invested in juniors see their players improve.

$9m will aee a fair comp and competitive draft. We can revise next season. Lets give it a shot

I think we've just shown that it won't work. If we can't even afford 5/5s, it's not going to work.

The salary cap should stop one or two sides from dominating by hoarding all of the best players, but it shouldn't be forcing people to field a substantially weakened side. If it's making everybody play crappy players they've never heard of, it's not doing its job.

It may not be realistic to have all NRL/ESL players in a side, but it's probably not realistic to have two teams in Nanjing, a team in Armidale, and a team in the Vatican either.

Ideally, you want the fantasy part to be fun, without completely taking away from the challenge.

If 5/5s are in the $275,000 area, we either need to lift the cap or lower their salaries. I don't think anybody's fantasy is having to give Matt Bowen (in his current shape) a run.

I was going to say $12 million, given the average player increase is just over 50 percent, taking into account all players that were on teams that hadn't been retired, and all player pool players...

...but I would be happy with $10.5 million, and could live with $10 million...

Just had a quick look through; $10.5 is probably best. There's 6/5's that are under the average that really represent the fringe first grader and are depth material.

The only time our best 17 are not on the paddock is due to injury. It adds realism to replace through injury with a fringe player

$10.5 million sounds like a good fit to me.

Let's lock that in.

If we finish the draft and find a glaring issue with it, we can revisit it then. I think it ought to work though.

Still waiting on
Grapes of Nanking
Ipswich Reds
Shenzhen Sharkiohs
South Canberra Knights
Sydney Vipers

I'm not sure which franchise is available? I know natheel is looking for a franchise in the Waiting List - Available Sides thread.

Sydney are uncoached, and I would say Shenzhen too.

Baz is South Canberra and perverse is Grapes. Wizardman is Ipswich.

Drew - Care to caretake for Sydney for the draft?

I'll take care of Shenzhen, and have reminded Wizard about Ipswich.

Also, other suggestions:

- Once the draft is completed, should we do a supplementary draft say of 3 or 5 rounds. These players are not contracted(so do not affect salary cap) so can be picked up by anyone offering a contract at any stage. These players can be used throughout the season, basically in effect a 2nd tier player. For EG, all but one of your hookers goes down injured, and you wanna play a hooker from bench. Zing, your second tier player comes in. To ensure this doesn't affect the season start date, it can continue when draft is completed but doesn't affect Rd 1. You can release and change your 2nd tier players at any stage (draft is only to make sure that its fair initially)

- 9s. Not sure how if this would work with the sim. But as in real life, the 9s is as part of the NRL calendar, and imo should be in this too. Injuries happen in the 9s, its a risk that all the teams take. You send 18 players (could use your 2nd tier players). Strategy is upto you, leave your best behind, or bring them and hope to win. As a reward for winning, a good form boost would be good. A form boost based on how far you go in the tournament may work
