Even the animated story intro is wicked. The first one had the cool in-car view screen however Twisted Metal 2 dominates everything else.

Love Twisted Metal : World Tour, easily one of the most played PS1 games for me & my group of mates.
Played demo of the first game as well, and rented it out one time (love the evil Christmas music!), but the epicness of the sequel (levels, characterisation, gameplay, general funny stuff) trumped it. The first time seeing the Eiffel Tower fall in Paris was mind-blowing back then hah, never got old seeing it tumble to the rooftops.

Was awesome finding all the nooks and crannies of each level and coming up with crazy traps and other strategies to lure others into (whether CPU or mates in one-on-one), love the ricochet bombs haha! Especially just hitching a ride on the Hong Kong trains and sending off a shit-ton of ricochets down the tunnels. Fun times.

Playing Dark Tooth used to freak the hell outta me, hah, I remember the first time I got to him was button mashing the level codes and suddenly getting the Spectre code for Hong Kong ( X O X O TRI SQ if memory serves me correctly).

Ah, videogames in the 90s, good times. Good times.

:lol::lol::lol: I can hear the character voice in my head reading that!

Also loved the Paris level, and having to napalm the Mona Lisa to reveal secret codes.

Bulldog, did you ever try T2 The Arcade Game on SMS?

That's the one I remember being a massive thumb killer haha!

Never understood why you couldn't use that light gun with this game either, only the D-pad...

Yeah mate, I tried it... but man that game drove me insane, and I agree with you 110% - the fact that we couldn't use the light phaser on that game was nuts. It would've been so much better. Sega Master System games that have first-person shooting segments should've automatically been compatible with that device. That's one reason I couldn't ever finish it... it was just too hard. It reminds me a lot of Operation Wolf... too hard, near impossible to complete using the D-pad.

Can someone recommend a good Mega Drive game to play - perhaps something that wasn't very well known back in the days? After a rare treasure to play :) (I actually have every MD game, obviously just don't know of any little-known goodies).

You've probably played it already, but Elemental Master is pretty bad ass. Its a top down shooter with awesome graphs and music. I've been meaning to go through some Megadrive games too actually, that system has such an extensive library of great games.

Mate I had no idea about that game. I just searched some footage of it and it looks pretty cool. Love the 16 bit music too. I need to give it a go - thanks dude.

Seriously the Mega Drive is one of the best systems from that era.

Any Nintendo lovers here? If so I got an awesome 8 bit game for you @ New Grounds. It's basically the original 8-bit Mario on the NES, however, you can pick a host of original NES characters to play instead of Mario, including Link, Samus, Megaman and a few more.

Each character looks exactly like their original 8-bit sprite self, and when you pick this character, his/her music from their original 8-bit NES game plays instead of the Mario music.

Very well produced and highly recommended worth the look.

Double DD44 Dostovei was a good feeling!

You're right, 1997 was a pretty awesome year for video games.

1996 was a particularly big year from memory as well.

Any of those stand out for you from that era?

Yeah, I remember in 1996 had a few good games, mainly on the PC. There was Fury 3, but I'm thinking that could've been released in 1995.

I know that the original Tomb Raider was released in 96.

Also Need for Speed: Special Edition. When that game came out, I thought it was the best thing ever.

The first Doom game was released across a few ports in 1996, but on a few other platforms as early as 1993.

Can't forget Death Rally either - the was Apogee's final ever game.

What stands out head and shoulders above all of those for me however, is the PC port of this game :D

So in summary, yes, 1996 was a fantastic year.
