Millward was specifically appointed to his current position - official reason being Mary could not coach and spare the time for recruitment/pathways/retention duties. Unofficially it was because of a backroom old boys deal.
Millward did extend Aitken and Lafai long term despite poor form the previous season and the fact that no one was chasing their signature. A short term extension with some performance KPI's relating to an option in favour of the Club would have been the way to go at the time.
