Firstly, I don't think it was a cheap shot. Ricketson was standing next to him at the time. If your in a spot of bother with someone and his mate is next to you, I don't think you would expect that person to be just standing there.

I don't think he will miss the GF. I think he hit him with his forearm and not a clench fist. Probably take the same defence as Price. I think the Roosters will argue that he didn't try to punch him but rather harshly "Pushed" him aside.

The media didn't waste time though. Some of those blokes should be in the medical profession. Broken Jaw, Fractured Jaw, Loose Teeth....

Based on the content of your post saying that it was a "cheap shot", no. He was reacting to an event which occured in front of him.

Should he be guilty of striking? Well, Price got off didn't he? Mason wasn't even charged over the David Myles incident.

What makes me laugh is that those who want to see a bit of biff are the first to bleat when it doesn't suit them. I don't believe that Ricko will lose a spot in the GF because of it. As Cat has rightly pointed out, he simply reacted to the situation.

He has been reacting a lot lately. In the past he was mainly the consumate professional and played it hard and fair. In recent weeks he has looked a very frustrated footballer - a bit of niggling and a few high tackles creeping in - that don't suit a player like Ricko. The punch, IMO, came through frustration more than anything. Its disappointing.... :?

A very good observation. The only explanation i can offer is that it is proof of how bad the guys want this years Premiership. The club owes alot to Freddie and (dare I say) Gus for turning things around for the Roosters since the abyssmal 80's. Guys like Luke was a junior back then and will no doubt give his right arm to see his mate Freddy off a chapion. BTW, Luke ain't the only one.

It's could also be a sign of old age.

BTW, it wasn't a punch. The replay shows his forearm swung against his chin. It was not frustration but done in defense of Freddy who we all know doesn't know how to throw a punch.

I think that Ricko just had a twitch and his arm shot up and broke a guys jaw accidently. Ricko had his eyes closed, and was what I thought trying to catch a mossie that was flying above Fien.

the Roosters are looking at new camera angles for that Mossie.

It was a good imitation of one. I only saw it once as I missed the start of the game.

Ricketson's actions were disgraceful- it is not bringing back the biff when you hit a guy who isn't even looking.

But we all know that he will get away with it. Please refer to Brett Finch case.

Ricketson hit Fien whilst Fien was not even looking at him. Fien was looking at Fittler when he got hit by the cheap shot. Ricketson has to get at least 1 week for it. But then again I thought Finch should have had the book thrown at him also.

Yeah, to answer your question, I think he'll go. They'll probably contest it being the GF and all, but I don't think they'll really expect him to get off, or even any reduction. I guess it's a little unfortunate that Fien's got a glass jaw because I think if he hadn't hit the deck, it probably wouldn't have gone any further. That said, he shouldn't have thrown the punch and deserves what he gets.
I've never know Ricketson to act like he has the last half of this year. Maybe he's still frustrated that he had to fight for a position in the team next year. Maybe he's sick of being the nice guy. I just don't know.
It's kind of a pity that we're in all 3 grades because anyone that comes up to fill his spot will have a cascading effect on the other teams. Gone are the days when players would back up from a reserve grade grand final to play in first grade.

very fair call
both i thought were a joke, however 3 wrongs dont make a right
its a shame he will miss the GF, that should be taken into account, based on the fact its a GF, one match should do the job

Price and Mason were reacting to things that happened to THEM. I'd like to see the Roosters with their full team on the field, but Ricko was fighting Fittlers fight.
