I was one of the ones not happy with Stuarts appointment, but seriously 4 rounds into the year his saying the roster we have is just not good enough doesn't cut it with me. Like someone said he has the same roster as Kearney and if he wants to show us his a better coach he'll get better results with this squad.

It's only round 4 and we're already on his back, this first year will make or break how successful we are gonna go under Stuart because by the sounds of it his looking forward to next year already.

I'd say he has a much weaker roster than Kearney. Last year from our forward pack we lost Hindy, Poore, Horo, and Shackleton and replaced them with just Lussick. And we're wondering why we're 3 forwards short of a decent pack. It's pretty simple, we didn't replace the players we lost. I still expect us to go better than last year and hopefully move away from spoon territor, but in reality we've just got too many fringe first graders in our top 17 to compete for a finals spot.

Not denying anything. We are have an average squad and with a bit of luck could of been 3/4. RS has his work cut out, and the knives are out.

Let's just see how this pans out.

I don't have the knives out - I want him to see out his contract. The thing I don't want is him telling us that our team is shit and we should expect another flogging or two until the troops arrive. Hasn't he heard of self fulfilling prophecy?
If they have a defeatist attitude then I have better things to do than fly a thousand kilometres to watch a team that has already lost before I get there. I would rather spend my money on going surfing until they all (coach included) think they are at least in with a chance.

I am dreaming i know but from Monday nights game just imagine if we had Sonny Bill and Hagreaves in our side, two top players in positions we desperately need.Yes i know we need a 9 as well but two players of that calibre would improve our squad immensely.The problem remains where do we find two like that. In my opinion there is not much to choose from that are off contract for 2014.

Is Stuart the coach to lead us out of this quagmire? I don't know, but he is a coach and that will have to do. Personally I have seen things in all four of our games so far that gives me hope we are actually improving. I have also seen the same old things that have been driving us all crazy over the last few years. I am not a Ricky Stuart fan, but i can see his influence on this team at the moment and i think its for the better. We might not like hearing our team is crap from our coach, but at least its the truth, our roster is dreadful, especially when it comes to depth.

So lets sack Ricky then, and the next bloke and the next bloke

How can you say they had the worst roster in the A League .They have more imports than most clubs.The reason they were at lengthy odds is that most good judges probably didn't think that Popovic would get them to gel as well and as quickly as he has.Tony sorry mate but you cannot seriously compare their squad to the rabble that our last three coaches have assembled.

At least you agree that it is Popovic who is responsible for getting them to gel so quickly which is the point I am trying to make.
The Wanderers have only 6 imports (about the normal number which for most teams is between 4 and 6) in their top 24 and the number of imports is no indication of the quality of the squad overall anyway. Just because they qualify to play internationally for another country doesn't make them a better player than the next bloke.
Anyway ME told us no one cares about them. Sorry ME.

so you want him to lie?

How do you know he didn't? He doesn't have a crystal ball and neither do you, so why is it too much to ask for him to have a little faith in his players under his care? If he doesn't have anything positive/optomistic to say then I would prefer he said nothing. What you see as being truthful I see as the opposite as it seems more like a cop out to me. I don't want him to make promises either way but it shits me when the only promise he makes is that we will get towelled up again. I wonder what our potential 1.5 million dollar sponsors think about it.

Doesn't that say something? I mean, several coaches have tried and failed to spark something...Says a lot about their mental state IMO.

Our depth is a real issue, too - in many positions, our cover positions are equally as good as our first choice positions. Some notable examples:

* Tanginoa, despite being young and only having a handful of First Grade experience, is just as good as any of our first choice back-rowers (except Reni on a good day) IMO;

* Nathan Smith (who is an average player at best) is just as good as Keating (though Keating is a great defender);

* With Sio, Tonga and Blair not playing a handful of games, we have to rely on Toutai (too green) or eventually Mackenzie (average and solid at best).

In my eyes, the young blokes we have that are potentially very good are: Ryan Morgan (he cops a lot of shit here, but he is a very good player IMO), Cheyse Blair (raw, but full of potential), Ken Sio (he has displayed poor handling and nervousness under the high ball, but he is usually solid, quick and a great finisher - his kick returns are good, too), Jacob Loko (but a woeful defender), Lussick (he should start with Mannah IMO) and Allgood (should play in the back-row IMO). I am omitting Mannah, Sandow and Hayne because they are stars.

That means that the positions of five-eighth, hooker and the entire starting back-row are all pretty horrible (IMO, of course). We have no second-rowers good enough to take the second or third hit-up after a kick; we rely on our backs and our props getting quickly back onside to make hit-ups and try to get metres; and we have a hooker who is solid in defense but below average in attack.

We have a mediocre squad IMO.

We do indeed have a mediocre squad but so do about ten other teams. We didn't lose 50-0 because of lack of ability, we were flogged because of our mental state.

Just like last year it wasn't the poor squad or tactics that made us shit; it was the team's mental state, starting with the misery of Hayne's injury in pre-season and compounded by rifts in the playing group.

The squad was far worse in 2011 and they actually finished ahead of a couple of sides. And I believe this year's team is actually better than last year's due to all the young guys being a year older.

But the past two weeks have shown they have mental issues. This squad shouldn't get beaten by 50 by anybody.

Last year from our forward pack we lost Hindy, Poore, Horo, and Shackleton and replaced them with just Lussick.

Of the four we lost, the only one who is currently playing NRL football is Horo. That's how good the other three are going. And Sticky was the one who let Horo go.

None of the four are any great loss. The guys we have are just as good.

To put that into perspective, Daniel Harrison played 16 games for Manly last year and Horo has played four out of four games for them this year.

But Harrison isn't good enough to crack our back row, and Horo got the arse during the off-season despite having a year to run on his contract.

Maybe our back row isn't as bad as you'd like to think. Maybe our problem isn't to do with the talent in the squad.

Maybe Horo is a good player afterall, but Keaney was being an arsehole.

If Horo's a good player why would Sticky get rid of him?

Because Horo was getting paid too much?

Allegedly close to $250k - money the Eels felt would be better spent on Folau. Oops - we might have gone off early on that one...

And Harrison was a crap signing... you just can't admit it ;-)
