Keep in mind that Sydney is about 25% bigger than Melbourne. Sydney is really not conducive to a centralised stadium plan.

It is except for three clubs who are isolated and are almost sub regional in their locations. The big clubs are drawing from across the city so makes sense for them to be central. Really apart from Wests nostalgia for playing games in the park, parra who would argue their stadium is more conducive to club games anyway and st's who would be reluctant to leave a semi developed ground the rest are already centralised.

No idea what you do about cronulla, manly and Penrith other than accept they are small clubs who aren't going to draw big crowds anytime soon.

All things being equal the NRL would probably prefer to see
St's, Rabbits and Easts at Allianz
Parra, Wests and dogs at ANZ

I read with interest Greenburg wants all Sydney teams to play out of Anz or Sfs within 2-4 years.

This will stuff league completely & emphasises why Canterbury were so happy to get rid of him

I think Greenberg is realistic enough to know that all Sydney games can't and won't be played at allianz and anz. Rather imo we will get to the point where each club has their rationalised but not necesaarily scrapping of suburban grounds. For example sharks v dragons twice per season both at allianz with entry to both sets of members = bumper crowd.

I keep hearing this type of comment. Its a lot of cash... its a working class game, why should we pay for this etc. The sooner rugby league fans realise its a commercial business enterprise the sooner we start moving the game forward IMO. Its as if some want the cake and the icing but want others (IE LEagues Clubs, the Government IE taxpayers) to be the ones to pay for it.
I think everyone realises its run as a commercial business. That doesnt increase everyone's disposable income. Nor does it increase leisure time. Take those 3 or 4 home games from Campbelltown, and 250 000 people lose their local footy option, and gain an extra 2 hour travel commitment. As for your $20 packing fee, add that to your ticket price and consumables while you are there, plus fuel/fares, and there is around $70 blown. if you are frugal.

F*ck knows how thats going to attract more people. Its guaranteed to increase the amount of people who cannot afford to do it.

Besides, who wants to get home at midnight with a young family??????

Well if I was a souths fan and I could get a membership that got me access to all souths home games in Sydney, plus all souths away games against those 5 other shared stadium teams plus GA to any game involving those clubs at those two stadiums as a neutral, and it wasn't a huge sum more that a standard Souths ticketed membership then as a RL fan I certainly would! Would give me the option of not only seeing my own club play 15-17 games but also to ctach some good games as a neutral supporter or if my mates were going to watch their teams. ANZ and Allianz is plenty big enough to accomodate this for 99% of games, would hopefully be a way fo seeing a lot more away fans attend and an increasing number of neutrals to games.
What the hell makes you think fans will flock to memberships when they can lob to a game and buy at ticket???
I'm sure ANZ and Allianz would rather see 35,000 people through the gate than 20,000 just form a food and beer sale point of view.
F*ck what ANZ and Alliance want. How about the people with the money - the fans? Move all games to ANZ and there is a 50% chance that people will have to travel past a suburban ground to get there. Play games at Allianz and you make it harder for 90% of the population. The Roosters work there because they have been playing there for 105 years. It never worked for Souths or Saints, why would it work for clubs even further away?????

Which would be fine iof the fact wasn't that these suburban grounds invariably draw the lowest crowds. If they are so popular, easaly accessable and what the fans want why are the lowest crowds in Sydney happening at them?

Because if you have got free tickets as a part of your membership you are much more likely to attend a game as a neutral or an away fan than if you have to fork out $50 to go.

It's not what the stadiums want, its what the NRL wants, I was merely pointing out that the stadiums are not likley to object to a Sydney membership that sees thousands more coming through the gate and buying their food and beer. The NRL has set a target of 20K in just 4 years, it has said it wants to see centralised stadiums, the Govt has said it will only fund a centralised stadium model, the writing is on the wall.
