I read with interest Greenburg wants all Sydney teams to play out of Anz or Sfs within 2-4 years.

This will stuff league completely & emphasises why Canterbury were so happy to get rid of him

Works for canterbury because their home ground is like 2km from ANZ. Works for Melbourne because all their clubs are inner city suburbs and have good public transport.

Those that think it will work for Sydney are morons.

People keep smashing me for having this opinion like I'm some sort of extremist. They don't realise that the highest people in the NRL, Grant and Smith and Greenberg, all also see the writing on the wall and the necessity in stadium rationalisation.

They want 20k average crowds in 3 or 4 years. That physically cant happen in suburban stadiums.

I think within 5 years we'll have almost every single team playing 10 games a year at either SFS or ANZ. That is the direction the leadership of the NRL want to go in.

If Wests Tigers can play at SFS when their bases are at Balmain and Campbelltown I think most teams will manage.

The biggest issue for people at Allianz...getting there and getting out of there.

Even for "big" games we struggle to fill Allianz Stadium. If you are using the M5 to get to Moore Park on any given day you are fighting traffic to get there. Once you are there, it's a matter of parking, unless you have a sneaky spot to park, you have to use the paid parking.

If you think Allianz is all great, you haven't tried to escape Moore Park post match. You can easily sit in traffic for 90 minutes just trying to get back onto Moore Park rd.

Will manly & cronulla fans really make the trek into the city 12 games a year or worse Homebush?not in your life.

The Dragons played out of there in 2008 and crowds and membership dropped significantly.there is nothing worse than 12,000 in Anz.

They are using the afl model but the afl went to this policy as there membership numbers had grown and the matches were selling out at suburban grounds.this isn't the case with league and never will be.

Agreed.

If the NRL is serious about building crowds. Ticket prices have to change. The seating allocation at ANZ Stadium has to change.

It's not a matter of having "better" pre-match entertainment. It's all pointless when people won't go because it's a rip off.

Public Transport NEEDS to be FREE with every ticket. The fact NSW doesn't do this is a joke.

I would hate to see this. If I ever get down to Syndey for an extended period of time, I won't be heading to ANZ or SFS to watch a few league games. I'll be heading to the suburban grounds.

That's another thing. With 3 or 4 teams based at the ANZ and at the SFS tickets will be cheaper. Logic tells you if you have 80,000 to sell you sell them for cheaper than if you have 20,000 to sell. Same goes for food. With more games at each major stadium they'll be able to offer cheaper food because of bulk.

Personally I could never see the logic in a team called South Sydney playing their matches in Sydney's west.i see even less logic with other clubs from Sydney doing the same

Clubs are going to outgrow their suburban grounds sooner or later and the NSW govt basically said no more upgrades with the new stadium policy iirc. Rock and a hard place, etc.

A good start from the NRL would be including all public transport costs like we have in QLD & offering $2.50 tickets like the AFL would piss off a lot less fans too

it's all part of the plan...

the ARL wants to expand the competition, but it can't because there are too many sydney teams.
get the sydney teams to start sharing grounds, start to rdeuce their funding and then gradually force them to merge if they want to stay in the NRL.

Why would the nrl want to remove games from the west though. Demographically its a significant chunk of Sydneys population. Seems a bit short sighted to me. There should always be games in Penrith and the south west just for the health of the game.

Absolutely no indication that that will happen going off crowd figures

Have you ever tried getting out of the Moore Park district after the game...Forget that idea...

The fact that Wests Tigers (a West Sydney club) play their big games out of Allianz, and South Sydney (a Sydney club) play out of ANZ, shows the level of genius we're dealing with here.

Dragons crowds are garbage no matter where they play
