Should the NRL move to ANZ and Allianz, on average fans from clubs who would move would have to travel 30km to get to a game. Wollongong fans the most at 80km one way.

This is compared to Melbourne clubs in AFL who on average have to travel no more than 10km. Of course those based on where the HQ for the club is located.

Here is the breakdown of the distance of HQ to ANZ and Allianz, PLUS the Crowd Averages of both NRL and AFL clubs http://wp.me/p2XWQ7-6q

I'd say NZ, Melbourne and possibly Gold Coast have the long term potential to break the 20k avg
Melbourne have been given everything and only this year are they topping 16k. What happens when they become a mid-low table club? Gold Coast have ticket price issues and a local council that is anti NRL. NZ have Unio to contend with
I'd say st's, Wests, bulldogs, souths have good potential to regularly top 20k
You apostrophie work needs attention. Saints only draw at their own 2 grounds for starters. Wests will only work for a handful of games. And all those figures are for sucessful teams. In this plan there is no allowance for teams in rebuilding phases or in lean years.

With st's, parra, dogs, sth's, roosters and Wests playing out of central Sydney stadiums the NRL could certainly comeup with some membership options that encouraged away fans and more neutrals to attend games. A Sydney stadium membership for example that got you in to any NRL game played at Allianz or anz.
WHO WOULD BUY MEBERSHIPS FOR CLUBS THEY DONT SUPPORT??????

The biggest issue for people at Allianz...getting there and getting out of there.

Even for "big" games we struggle to fill Allianz Stadium. If you are using the M5 to get to Moore Park on any given day you are fighting traffic to get there. Once you are there, it's a matter of parking, unless you have a sneaky spot to park, you have to use the paid parking.

If you think Allianz is all great, you haven't tried to escape Moore Park post match. You can easily sit in traffic for 90 minutes just trying to get back onto Moore Park rd.

At last weekend's game, I think parking was $20. Fairly comparable to CBD parking in Sydney anyhow. Getting out, it took maybe 10 minutes to get out of the grass parking across the road. They actually seemed to have a good traffic management plan in place.

As for the M5, it'll be interesting to see how traffic flows once the current works on it are completed. I've noticed already its slightly quicker having taken out the cash lanes for the tolls.

Erm that's a lot of cash!

I keep hearing this type of comment. Its a lot of cash... its a working class game, why should we pay for this etc. The sooner rugby league fans realise its a commercial business enterprise the sooner we start moving the game forward IMO. Its as if some want the cake and the icing but want others (IE LEagues Clubs, the Government IE taxpayers) to be the ones to pay for it.

Well if I was a souths fan and I could get a membership that got me access to all souths home games in Sydney, plus all souths away games against those 5 other shared stadium teams plus GA to any game involving those clubs at those two stadiums as a neutral, and it wasn't a huge sum more that a standard Souths ticketed membership then as a RL fan I certainly would! Would give me the option of not only seeing my own club play 15-17 games but also to ctach some good games as a neutral supporter or if my mates were going to watch their teams. ANZ and Allianz is plenty big enough to accomodate this for 99% of games, would hopefully be a way fo seeing a lot more away fans attend and an increasing number of neutrals to games. I'm sure ANZ and Allianz would rather see 35,000 people through the gate than 20,000 just form a food and beer sale point of view.

As I said in another thread, in 4 years I can see Souths, Easts, Parra, Wests, and the Dogs playing all their home matches out of ANZ/Allianz.

But it would be a disaster for the others.

I read with interest Greenburg wants all Sydney teams to play out of Anz or Sfs within 2-4 years.

This will stuff league completely & emphasises why Canterbury were so happy to get rid of him
Are you that arrogant? Do you have any idea how much Greenberg has lobbied to get Belmore Sports Ground upgraded for it to be fit to accomodate NRL games? We are currently in phase 2/3 of an upgrade, meaning that Belmore could host NRL games within the next 5-10 years. If Greenberg helped the Bulldogs upgrade their suburban home ground, why the hell would he want every team playing at the big 2 stadiums? He ultimately has NO POWER to decide where any NRL team chooses to play their NRL games.

I'd like to read that article myself please. Link?

The remaining Sydney teams may cease to exist.

Which is the plan. They and other idiots (such as the ones in these threads) honestly believe teams moving to these stadiums will have no effect on teams or attendances or simply want teams to make way for teams like Perth.
Its all stupid. People want to turn the game into super league mark II while they act like its in the games best interests.
Heres a tip. It isnt.

Going by the article Greenberg only wants 1 game a year maybe at Belmore.

In the interview this thread is about he actually says the plan is for the Dogs to play 1 game a year at Belmore.

And he says he's not suggesting the complete extinction of suburban stadiums. The plan is for most or all Sydney clubs to play the majority of their games at the big stadiums with 1 or 2 in the smaller ones.

I highly doubt that in the AFL all Carlton fans live in Carlton, all Collingwood fans live in Collingwood etc. Pretty sure they would have fans from the outskirts of Melbourne travelling in to the city to watch them play.

The AFL has created strong brands where clubs don't rely on locals for supporters and members. Teams aren't tied to an area of the city like the Sydney NRL clubs are. I would say fans of AFL clubs are spread all across Melbourne. The NRL needs to work on doing the same thing, but we are a long way behind.

Tbf the Sydney clubs that are drawing the big crowds aren't geographically isolated and are drawing fans from all over the city. The days of only following a team if you live in their postcode are long gone for the big clubs. It's why souths can play games at anz and still draw 20k. The clubs that are geographically isolated are the ones struggling to break 15k.

How about something like sunday double headers. Imagine if say Parra play NQLD as 2pm, then Bulldogs play Canberra at 4pm or something along those lines.

You buy a regular ticket and can go to just one of the games or you can stay and watch both. Even if you dont care about the other game, alot of people will stay to watch. Be a nice crowd boost even if the tickets are cheaper.

You will also notice that the population of Collingwood is 6,000ish. Im going to guess that people come from various places to watch the games.

Making the premium seats cheaper and filling the stand opposite the cameras would be a good start. $50 to sit where you can see the game ok is way too much.

Keep in mind that Sydney is about 25% bigger than Melbourne. Sydney is really not conducive to a centralised stadium plan.
