Just to let you all know.
Phil passed away last night with his family by his side.
Nice to know he had quite a good day yesterday.

As we've all been saying, he was a real follower of the game and a very nice man.

Rest easy now Skinz

RIP Skinner. Wasn't around in the earlier days of the forum but he was always a learned, well reasoned poster from all I saw.

I've recently experienced grief in this way and it is a long, arduous journey. Hope his family finds peace with it all and is able to reflect on the good times I'm sure he enjoyed.

Mate.
This genuinely sucks.

I never met the guy (I havn't met anyone from here thinking about it...) but it's never nice knowing someone whose had the same passion, that we've talked with over the years has gone.

Good to hear he went out on a good note, and with family as well.

Woke up to this news on my Facebook feed this morning. Horrible way to start the day.

RIP Phil. A genuinely nice guy who never had a bad word for anyone.

Wherever he is now, I hope they have trivia because he was a trivia demon.

My thoughts are with his family.

All the very best to Phil and his family, please pass on our regards @AliN - he made a wonderful contribution to LU and the Front Row for such a long time and loved his footy.

Very sad news. RIP Skinner

Good fella. Always up for a chat on FB, especially about sport or even just checking in when I was struggling mentally despite us never having met in the flesh. Definitely sad news to wake up to today, a really genuine human being

RIP Skinner. Already said what I had to say about him in the other thread, sad to see one of the old guard pass and I’m glad his last day was a good one.

What was the cause Ali, I’m guessing the big C?

I'm not sure, but he was diabetic, had lost part of his leg to this horrible disease aawhile back and I knew he was suffering pretty badly with pain. Often with diabetes comes strokes, heart attacks, kidney failure etc.

We'd chat frequently about how much diabetes sucks (I'm type 1).

Even though I never met him I feel like I lost a good friend.

Very sad to hear this news. I remember the good ole days around here, to me the two venerable old blokes who knew the history of this game and had a real hunger for the culture of it were skinner and ozbash. Must admit skinner put me in my place a couple of times when I was younger and thought I knew how to fix the world in one fell swoop. Can’t say at all he was wrong. The wisdom of experience.

Clearly extremely passionate about NZ rugby league, really enjoyed his insights.

Can’t believe he’s gone. I’m used to seeing his Magpies avatar up.

Rest In Peace skinner, always know I respected the heck out of you. No matter which side of the debate you were on.
