Police are investigating the theft of a RiseForAlex donation bucket near Newcastle overnight.

About 12.50am today (Friday 18 July), the donation bucket was stolen from the counter of a fast food restaurant on Lambton Road in Broadmeadow.

Officers from Newcastle Local Area Command are investigating the theft and are in the process of obtaining CCTV.

Police are looking for a man of Caucasian appearance, aged in his early 20s, skinny build and was wearing an ‘Adidas’ brand hoodie and khaki coloured pants.

Anyone with information about the theft or who can identify the man is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The RiseForAlex Fund has been independently established to provide Alex McKinnon with the ongoing financial and medical support he desperately needs.

The RiseForAlex Fund will provide Alex with ongoing medical rehabilitation, housing suitable for his mobility and movement, essential physiotherapy equipment and many more necessities to ensure Alex is taken care of by the game he loves.

I really wanted to attend this round for so many reasons but it seems health will probably prevent me from getting there. Damn chemo

I will get out and buy a Telegraph and I have instructed my mates to buy me five of those wristbands

$11 isn't much, but it feel it's important that we all do something when things go to shit

Sitting here pointing fingers saying this person or organisation should do more when you yourself aren't going to do a f**king thing yourself stinks of the lowest form of selfishness known to humanity

Try leading with actions even if they're small ones. A million drops of water beats a load of hot air if you wish to make something grow

Well said. Unfortunately with all the wonderful things people are doing there seems to be this intent by some people to criticise others for not doing enough. Anyone that contributes anything to the cause, be it a large donation, attending a game, a wristband, a paper or even just taking the time out to send Alex a message should be congratulated. When people say shit about others not doing enough (especially if try haven't done anything themselves) it takes away from the point of raising support for Alex to begin with.

Not taking away from the things that are being done. But Alex Mckinnon should have a blank cheque from the NRL. It shouldn't be left to the ad hoc plans based on the whims of who ever is running the joint at the time.

There should be a clear cut guideline if this ever happens in the future. A player crippled by rugby league should be taken care of directly by the NRL.

If I ran the NRL I'd have put 2 million dollars into his bank account the day I found out the severity of his condition.

That's because you're an idiot that has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. Suddenly having an extra $2 million in his bank account is going to achieve what for Alex? What is he going to spend it on - a 12 month, first class trip around the world? Will it make him walk again? A shitload of money in his bank achieves nothing besides being a token gesture disguised as something grander

What is important in the short term is to ensure that he is receiving the best possible treatment (which he is) and that all of his medical bills will be covered (which they will be from what I have read) so that he can make the best possible recovery and be out of hospital as soon as possible.

Medium term it is paying to fitout his house with the necessary equipment and aids to make his and his fiance's life as easy as possible when he does leave hospital along with an appropriate car for him to travel in. Once he is back home and settled in they need to provide him with whatever support he needs in training to get a new job in whatever field he wants to go in t.

Long term they need to help him get a new job, whether it is in football or something completely different. All the while making sure that all medical expenses are paid for.

Would the NRL have enough cash to do this all on their own? Most definately. However so many members of the public also want to help Alex out and contribute to his recovery. Why should the NRL deny people who want to help out?

Shit the NRL have really taken advantage of this whole Alex McKinnon injury thing to up their PR. Getting a bit ridiculous.

Its good isnt it...

Regardless of your opinion of the ARLC, you have to admit they are really improving the games image.

Under the old governing body, this would have been "the biggest black mark the game has ever had", but (because the NRL got ahead of it and created their own story) its become the feel-good sporting story of the year (probably decade).

Again, you miss the point of this upcoming round. It's about letting the fans of all clubs show their support and respect for a guy who has had a tragedy bestowed upon him. It's about community engagement and brotherhood which has been the cornerstone of rugby league since 1908.

You seem to believe throwing money at a problem is the solution to all life's problems. You are also under the delusion that the NRL are not writing a 'blank check' the NRL and the knights made it clear that they would be supporting Alex in all capacities from the get go and for the long haul.

I think it is great what the nrl and fans are doing this weekend, fans can't directly help him but by the clubs donating the $1 fans know they are helping.
