Interesting one. Would be very interesting if say Bird is convicted but the Sharks don't sack him yet the NRL want to deregister him. Ultimately I guess the NRL hold his registration so it would be their call.

There is some suggestion it has more to do with not playing enough NRL 1st grade games last season to qualify rather than his convictions. Not sure if that is true though.

that's nothing to do with a visa application ... that's a qualifying rule for the ESL ... and obviously he satisfied that rule because he had a contract to play .

Nope, in order to get a work visa to play SL you have to have played a certain amount of NRL first team games (think it is 12?) the season before. It basically allows the RL club to say that the person is of a higher standard than they could get a British person for the job. This has been a visa requirement for a long time. Only exceptions are if you are eligible for an EU passport or your a Kolpak player

Its actually pretty hard to get a working visa or any type of visa to any country with a criminal record, its not a RL thing.

Also, there is a system used around the world that tells countries if person has had their passport rejected. As soon as he tried to get into France, they'd have seen he's now been rejected in the UK, so it has made it 10 times worse for him.

Imagine that he played for an NRL team that won the comp, and his team were supposed to play in the world club challenge - LoL

But yes as a previous poster said, its hard to get a visa when you have a criminal record, new rules and professional sport not withstanding.
