Very strange indeed. Just when you think things are moving in a logical fashion with the 4 nations concept supported by euro cups/shields/plates & pacific cups; plus the good feeling enjoyed at the last WC - they pull out something like this.
Mind you, I thought the pools at the last WC was stupid, but it worked ok.

It worked for then, but I think it may flop for 2013... its a tough one as it makes no logical sense either way you go and we just open ourselves for further ridicule from Union, Soccer et. al.

The Magic of the Challenge Cup Returns

March 8th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

The Challenge Cup threw up a surprise this week. In Super League we are starting to see the dominance of the ‘Big 4’ being challenged finally. Its coming close to the NRL season start and in the Middle East Saudi Arabia caused an upset. In Jamaica GC Foster college secured their spot in the Final of the Uni Championships and another international is announced in the mid-year.

Norway to be a New Rugby League Destination?

March 10th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

Last week, Daniel Andruczyk from Rugby League International scores caught up exclusively with Warren Heilig for Rugby League Review. Warren is the president of the Norwegian Rugby League. Warren is in town on Holidays and to also learn new training techniques from the best of the best – The Brisbane Broncos. Warren has big plans for the sport in Norway, but initially I asked about 2009.

It's always a bit frustrating when a website that you are familiar with redesigns itself. It will take a little bit of time to get used to it. Once I do, I'll appreciate the extra features on offer.

The previous forum page was a bit too plain and it took too much stuffing around to find a specific post. This has clear categories that you can choose.

Historic Day, Rugby League Season in Full Swing, Rumours and RLIS redesign.

March 12th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

There is so much news from this last week to get through. First a redesign of the site. There have been announcements of games in Japan and the knockout comps in France and the UK in full swing. Cook Islands have had their opening round of games while the NRL is about to embark on what is the most exciting season yet. The USA grows with an extra team and splits into two conferences and news of a international in Europe. AND the rumour mill is back!

Where did you hear about the AMNRL splitting into two conferences dru? I've heard this one myself but this is the first time I've seen it mentioned elsewhere.

Frustration in Europe Builds

March 15th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

Now I am not one to be negative about Rugby League, but sometimes its a sport that can frustrate the hell out of you. This week I have been hammered with emails expressing the frustrations of nations that nothing has been announced in Europe. It seems that with Kevin Rudd’s leaving the RLEF seems to be a ship without a rudder. No news on his replacement, no news on this years tournaments and no news on the Italian and Serbian investigation.

Jesus, surely it's not difficult to split the nations into tournaments and tell the teams who and when they have to play, with amendments if anyone has any issues?

Well that seems to be what many of the nations are saying.

Why must we move?

March 19th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

This week we saw that the NRL and AFL were in “negotiation” about which grounds need to be used for the Soccer World Cup if Australia were to win the hosting rights. Some news from Russia and Estonia on some competition and Jamaica and the USA have some news on their respective competitions. Also I answer a readers question from last week.

Controversy Reigns in the NRL

March 23rd, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

This week saw some absolute howler referee decision in the NRL that has brought into question the standard of refs. Super league continues to draw the surprises, Lezignan powers on to the minor premiership in France and Lebanon has some surprise results as well. The Jamaican University Championships came to a close as well.

The Rise of the Western Dragon
March 27th, 2010
By Daniel Andruczyk

Monday night, well it wasn’t the NRL, but just as good I thought. Channel 9 are showing the second ESL game at midnight. It was the Crusaders and Catalans at the Wrexham’s Sportsground. Two things were a stand out, the quality and gritty play of the Crusaders and the decent crowd that came out in that damn cold weather.
