No, no… its not a fight to get the AMNRL Grand Final, the Philadelphia Fight did get the AMNRL Grand Final! Also some international results and more good news coming out of Lebanon. A bit in the rumour mill as well this week with Poland.

As far as I know, the espoir are made up from the local Lebanese playing in the Bank of Beirut cup while the Cedars are the big national team that can call on professionals world wide.

Yes, that is what I thought - but the Presidents team seems to be all locals as well.

OK, so basically the structure is this

Lebanon Cedars - The full Lebanese team with eligible players from around the world also includes locals.

Liban Espoirs - Is the National side made up of only the best local talent. These guys play for places in the Cedars (I have the 2008 jersey, very nice).

Presidents XIII - Are all the local fringe players who are trying to break into the Liban Espoir side.

Estonia Struggles on

This weeks Blog comes from John Slade the President and Coach Of Estonian Rugby. In Estonia Rugby Union and Rugby League all come under the one umbrella and work mutually together. Its a fairly new sport in general in Estonia and so the old rivalry does not exist. I have asked John to come on and write a little bit about Estonian Rugby League.

Gallant Crusaders Go Down to the Champions

This Weekend saw the Engage Super League season start off. These were a 3rd and 4th round match where Leeds and Harlequins could have time to play Melbourne for the World Club Challenge in a few weeks. Leeds playing the Crusaders produced an outstanding night. Internationally the 9’s schedule was released and France continued with their seasons as well as the Challenge cup matches in the UK and Jamaica had their invitational 9s tournament.

The Travellers and Food Lovers Guide to Rugby League – Cumbria.

The last several years I have had the fortunate opportunity to live and work overseas, namely in Germany. My passion for Rugby League found me travelling all over Europe to watch the greatest game and in one case even managed to participate in a tournament. So I have decided to write blogs on my experiences, the travel, food and cities I experienced and share some photos. This month I look at a heartland yet a frontier of Rugby League, Cumbria and Barrow in Furness and Whitehaven.

International 9s Cabramatta – Round Up

Saturday the 6th of February saw the annual International 9s played at Cabramatta’s New Era Stadium. Twenty one teams from the Bundy Red Cup, Australia and from overseas turned up to play, including an Australian Indigenous team and teams from Fiji, New Zealand and all the way from Japan. After playing initial round robin matches the teams were ranked and quarter finals played out. Windsor defeated Balmain in the Cup final to be crowned the champions.

Rugby League is Back!

Lots to talk about this week folks. Last weekend say the major powers of Rugby league start their seasons as well as the international 9’s in Sydney being played. The Jamaicans have their University championships up and running and received a boost from a good source. Its an exciting and busy time of year look like.

Massive week in International Rugby League?

This has been one hell of a week. Aside from the usual LER and ESL action, The NRL kicked of with a bang with it new concept the NRL Indigenous versus NRL All Stars. The Challenge Cup kicked as did the Northern Rail Cup. Round 2 of the Jamaican University champion ships was played and the Storm are off on an trip!

Japan Rugby League: The Interview

At the international 9s Rugby League International Scores’ own Daniel Andruczyk was able to get a few words with the leaders of Japanese Rugby League about their campaign and the state of the game in Japan. Elsewhere the next international test at the U18s level was played and results from Lebanon, the Challenge Cup, the Northern Rail Cup and the rumour mill is back.

Mid-Year Test Windows Announced

This week we got news on the two major mid-year test being played. The Melbourne Storm kicked off their World Club Challenge in London while the Jamaicans, Lebanese, French also got on with their Championships. I also caught up with Warren Heilig for a beer and chat in Brisbane and found out a few things.

Round Up and Worrying News From Estonia!

This week saw an amazing time in Rugby League. Jamaica’s whipping boys in the Uni championships got one back on their rivals, the World Club Challenge was played. Lebanon announced a tournament with a surprise contender, Super league powered on and over 100,000 fans turned out for NRL trials. All this pales to nothing when I read an email that came to me.

World Cup 2013 – One Step Forward Two Steps Back!

So by now we have all heard that the 2013 World Cup Finals will be at 14 teams. However its the structure and the way teams will qualify which is the truly the interesting part. Apparently 20 teams will only be allowed to fight it out! One step forward, two steps back I say. Lets dissect this and see what it really does for the game and the possibilities of the Cup.
