RLWC TV Rating Thread

I have never understood why this should matter. As far as I know everyone can get those channels.

It shouldn't really matter but the only thing that rates well on the secondary channels is live sport (League, AFL, Aus Open, Socceroos) or big-name TV shows (ABC2 rates its tits off for kids programming in the morning and Neighbours is a big drawcard for Eleven). Some older TV's can't access the digital channels either - my 10 year old TV can't pick up a bunch of them.

There's no way Channel 7 won't be bidding on the NRL rights at the end of the next deal. Channel 9 should be very worried - this is the biggest threat they'll have. 7 have had big success with the WC and 10 will be cashed up and keen to make a big move.

It does matter as when I go to Foxtel it shows the primary channel only so the other channels are all buried.if your channel surfing you would notice the primaries. Ask if you have no Foxtel, then channels 1-10 would’ve primaries?

Club football has clearly peaked.

Rep Football has so much more potential for growth and it isnt limited to the whims of suburban club bosses.

Agree that international footy is a definite growth area. If the petition to get rugby league sanctioned as a sport succeeds this would see the game boom in so many ways. Still think the NRL can grow to at least 20 teams. So room for both international and NRL to grow. Surely the NRL will increase or make essential that Free to air tv Saturday coverage must occur? Its astonishing the NRL havent locked this in yet!

But people know these channels exist. You don’t have to be Einstein to find them on the Foxtel Guide, they are listed under entertainment. Gee, are people so lazy to look or stupid to realise that maybe if I look here I just might find them.

PNGvWAL 130k (Metro)
NZLvSAM 249k (Metro)
FIJvUSA 245k (Metro)
Ire v Ita 169k (Metro)
Sco v Tong 227k (Metro)
lebanese v Fra 150k (Metro)

Total Rd 1 Audience 2.57mill (not inc regionals for Sat & Sun)

Pretty damn good IMO. Hopefully we similar or higher ratings throughout the tournament. Shame we didn't have simulcast as I'm certain the ratings would have been good on fox.

Edit: On Saturday seven mate actually out rated channel 10s main network. Seven had big wins on Friday and Saturday thanks to the RLWC. Makes you wonder why there wasn't more interest from 10 and fox.

IMO i find it hard to believe we did a good job at the negotiating table for the TV rights or for match venues. Bodies who should have been very interested in getting matches apparently didn't bid at all and I find it hard to believe that would have been the case. Impossible to know now.

At this time of year when sports options on fta are pretty limited it is amazing there wasn't an arms race for it, it shows how low profile the sport is at rep level I guess. Hopefully these rating will show tv companies it is worth buying international rl and hopefully this will encourage the nrl to take it more seriously. Shame we don't have a engl ad/go tour coming to Australia next year to build on this momentum. They could have had a test in png, 2 in nz and a three test series in oz.

Awesome! This will be a real selling point when the RLIF sit down to negotiate rights with broadcasters at the next world cup. Hopefully ratings internationally are strong too.

Couldn't agree more - I'm hoping that the recent Pacific Test success and the PNG pool success will finally get an annual Pacific Cup over the line. Yes, ideally hosted on the island but even if the first year or two have to be in Australia and New Zealand for commercial reasons it is better than nothing.

I think it has been shown though that PNG is a viable option for the Kumuls to start hosting test matches yearly.

I watched France and Lebanon on stream, worked a treat. Then watched the replay again on TV on the delayed telecast.

Thanks for the graphic Yak, I shared it around.
