sione mata'utia and tautau moga have withdrawn through to injury. Replaced by frank winterstien and tim lafai. Thoughts?

Wayne Bennett strikes again and Newcastle are shit scared of another James McManus legal case.

One more Samoan born player in the 24 though so I am happy,

Sione has had issues with concussion throughout this year. He missed the last couple of weeks of the season because of it. Im not suprised he isn't playing.

Lafai and Winterstein are handy inclusions though. Not sure why Lafai wasn't named in the original squad

Frank Winterstein's been a quiet achiever since returning from Super League/ 7s rugby and should provide depth in the back row/centres Tim Lafai should've been named in the first place.

Blow for France as Gadwin Springer withdraws. Repalced by Lambert Belmas, 20 year old prop with 3 first grade appearances...

Some surprises in there, had no idea Liam Kay, Singleton and LMS were eligible. Possible team:
1. Grix
2. Kay
3. T. King
4. Pewhairangi
5. McDonnell
6. Keyes
7. Finn
8. Amor
9. McIlorum
10. Singleton
11. Roberts
12. McCarthy
13. McCarthy-Scarsbrook

14. G.King
15. Hasson
16. Philbin
17. Mullally

Not too bad TBH.

I think they said they'd have five for the World Cup and they do if you include Russell the 25th man. Better than nothing but now they need to get a run.

i thought luke keary was going to pull on the irish jersey, and marc sneyd might've been picked for england. Never the less, great forward pack, plenty of experience.

Basically Fifita should have declared before squads were named, and this issue is entirely avoided. Both this time, and back in the May tests.

I recall Fifita committed to playing for Tonga during the May tests. He said he wanted to represent them at the World Cup and was going to play for them in the Pacific test but because Woods pulled out of the ANZAC test, Fifita was grabbed from Tonga to replace him.

5 RLI produced players. 4 Irish born. Mikey Russell was born in Sydney but moved to Ireland as a child.

Only 11 players from today's game in Fiji will make the Bati 24, according to Wes Naiqama.

http://www.fijitimes.com/story.aspx?id=419180

So presumably they have 13 already picked and those players aren't playing. Based on that perhaps Hayne, Vunivalu, Naiqama, Uate, Sims x 2, Evans, Saifiti, Koroisau, Kikau, Montoya, Kamikamica and Wiliame.
But that means no Sutton. Anyway you'd imagine Taane Milne, Waqa, Raiwilui, Vunakece, Nakubuwai and Roqica would be there and maybe Mocedreke so there's only a few spots left and there's several other NSW Cup and NYC players in line so I don't think many residents players will make it unless they actively choose to include some.

Just saw a facebook comment from Issac Luke on the Rugby League World Cup facebook page. A friend of his tagged him in the Irish named squad and said "well since we got Irish, ma will ae" Issacs response, "Bro i already tried aye but nanny needs an Irish passport or birth certificate". Sounds like Issac Luke tried to put his hand up for Ireland though his grandmother LOL. Micky mac is a shitload better than Luke anyway.

Strange that Keary didn't get a call up, I'm sure he made himself available and is an actual dual national.
