RLWC17 squads

Only two Scottish born in the final 24 in Scott & Russell. Disappointing they didn't pick the two lads playing park footy over in Aus, Clarke & Plumridge.

Not happy they have tier 2 swappers in the Bentley brothers either.

Most likely their international swan song anyway unless a miracle happens domestically next year.
So Scotland will run out with 2 native born players,is that the worst at the RLWC? I think Italy have 3,can someone do up a table & rank the nations by amount of players born in their country?

I'm keeping a tracker. Will post the stats when all the squads are in.

Scotland are tied for last place with Samoa & Italy. All three have only 2 home born.

Scotland could be the worst squad posted in the tournament, a far cry from their 4N one.

re: NH teams i think England can like their chances of at least making the final.
Ireland and Italy smokeys to win their pools.
One of France and Lebanon has to make the quarters, but if France click they could be a smokey for the semis. Personally I don't see Lebanon doing much

Scotland Wales too many absences to their top graders to make a dent unless their coaches are absolute geniuses.
Similarly USA but more due to sticking to their guns on heritage players than injuries.

I agree with this. Lebanon may surprise against France. I think Farah has the skill to tear the French up. If the French are passionate, they should be ok.

Who is the bloke who plays for Darlington Point? It seems odd that Scotland would call up a bloke from bush footy.

At least one of the Scots is actually a product of the Scottish RL. None of the Samoans or Tongans are.

How will Lebanon go if only one domestic player is picked? I don't know of any that are born in Lebanon but there might be.

Is the Scotland team really that much worse than their 4N squad? They're missing Linnett and Aitken in the centres but neither of them are exactly superstars. Also no Coote, but Matty Russell was superb at fullback in the last world cup. They still have Brough and Addy in the halves. Genuinely keen to hear why they're so bad. I mean, another draw with NZ or Tonga seems unlikely but they may push Samoa

.

Jonathan Walker? He was much traveled in Superleague but went off the rails. Ryan McGoldrick is the coach and they played together at Cas so I imagine that is why he is playing country footy.

He is Adam Walker's twin brother, who's is out after testing positive to cocaine. A shame he was immense in the 4 nations last year.

Apart from Brough they're literally missing their 7 best players. Still not terrible, the squad is stronger than Wales and could compete well in Group C or D IMO but as it is in Group B they'll probably get smashed.

The Scottish 'ring-ins' probably saw the Samoa, Tongan and kiwi teams and said....stuff this, aint wasting my time getting smashed in front of World Rugby League...so pulled out.

Probably not considering they drew with nz last year, beat tonga in the last World Cup and they play in the nrl and super league against the players anyway.

Wow. Its good to see Lebanon back in the World Cup n all, but its actually sad theres only 1 domestic. I was hoping to see more domestic players from all squads this world cup, but i guess it needs to look really competitive and exciting to get more people watching (which i don't mind at all) Hoping this World Cup will be a 10/10, so all the people that didn't watch suffer in regret.

Fiji have at least 5 locals this weekend/ during the week's training (Jacob Saifiti & Korbin Sims are being rested this weekend due to Korbin requiring approval after arm break & slight strain for J Saifiti, while Koroisau is getting married, so joins the camp next week)

It comes from poor weak leadership, if a general rule was put out saying all teams had to carry 4-6 home players they would all be equal. When say Ireland play Wales they would play these players but when they played tier one nations they play their pro players. It creates a better perception of the game internationally.
