Harris out is a big loss and Luke is a big call.

Bromwich is also a huge loss. I'm torn on Luke, he's showing his age and is far past his best. I'm not sure this is the best time to move on but I don't think it's a terrible decision.

It'll be interesting to see if TMM will be partnering Johnson in the halves.

I like that NZ are commiting to playing some young players. NZ badly need to start building for the future. They were very unlikely to win with Luke so may aswell give Levi an oppurtunity

NZ Herald reporting on New Zealand Squad

Tohu Harris OUT (Injury)
Issac Luke OUT (Dropped)
Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor remain OUT (Discipline)

Danny Levi IN
Simon Mannering IN
Te Marie Marin IN
So we can expect to see dozens of penalties going to NZ for Levi passing the ball into the head of a prone defender to the side of the ruck?
And damn, JBrom and Proctor still on the nose for discipline? Cudos to NZRL for taking a stand. Shows a lot of commitment to a cultural change.

No Menzie Yere, Ray Thompson, Mark Mexico, Dion Aiye, Israel Eliab? Don't know much about the Hunters but they must be pretty strong to be able to omit those players.

Why only 23? Any shock omissions or bolters mikail?

Alex Johnston was hotly tipped to be named but isn't on the list. Maybe they are waiting some sort of clearance.
They have also named 4 hookers.
Gary Lo has also been selected out of the English 2nd tier which is a shift from previous selection policy. But he is joining Castleford next year so maybe that is why he has been selected.

Israel Eliab got injured in the Hunters last normal season game. He missed the whole finals series including the Grand Final and last weeks State Cup.

Menzie Yere is past his best. Justin Olam, Kato Ottio and Nene MacDonald have him covered.

Ray Thompson has been injured. hardly played all year and has retired.

Dion Aiye could probably have been picked as a lock forward but as a five-eight that position now belongs to Ase Boas.

Am not sure about mark Mexico. Maybe the fact he is playing in tier 2 went against him.

Thanks Mikail. Can you confirm that the majority of the squad is PNG born, except Kurt Baptiste, Luke Page, Lachlan Lam & Rhyse Martin?

It's another nail in NZ's coffin. And quite possibly the tournament and IRL in general. I'm sure some people will love players from the big three choosing second tier nations but it's only NZ that is suffering and we need them to provide Australia with competition otherwise it will be even more of a one horse race.
