RLWC2017 Crowd Watch

This World Cup has been a massive success. Mostly decent crowds, plenty of profit made, png hugely successful hosts, tongan dream run and amazing fan support and tier 2 nations looking stronger. Just need England to pull of a miracle and snag a win now.

Lol, it's been a success sure but enough with the hyperbole. Apart from a few areas it's been below expectations. We should have built on 2013 but for the most part we haven't.

That's the thing. How much would you be willing to pay for the vibes given out from the Tonga-England game? Because if you take advantage of them correctly down the line they can be worth a lot.

Exactly.

Once we have stuff like this to sell to the world, people will pay to be a part of it.

Exactly gents. The high price ticket advocates are not seeing the benefits associated with full houses for the code. Their poor regard for the look of the game is a damaging stance. It reeks of misundetstanding the market and perception of rugby league as a popular sport with massive potential growth. But these high price dudes would rather have the game falter/questioned as to its validity/credibility in the public eye both locally and internationally. People want to see a packed house. If you don't have that in a final that's major embarassment. The football is good however the pricing is way too high for the general fan on the street and the neutral sports fan. Simple as that.

I think the final ticket pricing is fair, but this world cup has not been a massive success.

We were promised $12 million profit we will be lucky to get half that.

We were told 450k would be in the stands, even if the final sells out we will only be at 380k.

At those ticket prices the final will not sell out!

Have the organisers not put any deals on?

Everyone bags the RFL for doing last min offers, discount codes etc..but a discounted seat is worth more than a empty seat...even our clowns figured that out.

So be it, it’s the RLWC final not a park kick around the prices seem pretty reasonable to be honest.

They are not reasonable prices. The proof will be if this cup final sells out or not. In my opinion the marketing/ticketing have misread the market big time! We shall see. Hope I'm wrong. My gut feel is they have charged too highly and the code has and will be embarassed again for this poor judgment.

If every seat is not sold for this final then the people responsible for ticketing should be deemed unemployable for the rest of their lives. If we have to drastically reduce prices in the next few days then so be it. Make sure the stadium is packed. They reduced prices for Origin at Suncorp and they must do it for this much more important game in terms of our game's credo on the world stage.

It would be a full house which is 52000 for a start. I assume you will have corporate prices like $100plus somewhere. So im figuring not such a poor return with a great vibe for the game instead of viewing empty seats! And a public relations enbarassment which is what should be avoided.

Why would it be a guaranteed sell out? They haven’t sold all the $70 tickets yet so want makes you think another 15k people would go because it was $50? Pool games started at $20 and didn’t come close to selling out.

There is no evidence that ticket prices have been the major deciding factor in fans not going. Apathy and a general disrespect for the international game is the real reasons Australians haven’t turned out in numbers.

Let’s play hypothetical and say your $50a ticket strategy creates a 52k sell out, as unlikely as this is, that would mean ticket revenue of $2.6million.

Currently it seems around 36k have been sold at an avg around $100.thats $3.6million already. So even in your best case scenario the rlif loses out on $1million revenue to spend on growing the international game!

Outstanding outcome!!

Anything below 50000 for this world cup final is a fail in anyone's language! Price of tickets will dictate this number being reached. Simple as that! Either we get a good and positive look for the game or we are embarrassed once again on international TV. Not to mention the additional merchandise sales from the extra 10000 attendees that will not be attending! This is extremely poor business acumen for a developing code with many obstacles in front of it.

Are you going?

But they are reasonable in comparison with other sporting events of the level you want this to be.

The NRL aren't responsible for this ticketing sale.

The real reasons some of the crowds have been disappointing

1. General apathy of RL fans in Australia and nz to attend games. This isn’t specific to the World Cup, 2017 saw the nrl’s lowest crowd attendance avg in ten years

2. NRL doing very little to grow the kangaroos brand. Sporadic games and some years with none, is it any wonder most of the country haven’t heard of the kangaroos let alone get excited to see them play?

3. Negative RL media. Not confined to the World Cup but the rl media loves nothing better than snide comments and sniggering remarks about international rugby league

4. Fixation with origin as the pinnacle of the sport in Australia. Internationals are seen as second rate and fans respond accordingly.

5.NSW govt refusing to put its hand in its pocket and host big games. Ideally the opener or the semi would have been in Sydney

6. Venues, some of them weren’t the best options and places like NQ and Canberra especially let the game down. On the plus side how good is it to see the competition valued so much cities are willing to pay big to host?

7. Ticket prices, I think we’ve covered this one lol. Opener and Brisbane semi overpriced but pool games and final reasonable.

8. Ticket release, very bizarre strategy they have had to li it release of areas. Seems to defy any logic.

9. Marketing. Whilst no RL fan in Aus and nz could claim they didn’t know when and where the RLWC has been on the marketing to engage the general public has been disappointing and lacked any real creativity.

To get Australians to care about the World Cup, we need a QLD origin like period of international dominance. 10 years of England, NZ and Tonga winning all major titles would make people actually want the kangaroos to win.

I’m cheering for an England win, just as I cheered for NZ in 2008 and 2013.

If even a hardcore league fan like myself doesn’t want Australia to win, no wonder the average punter could give a F.

Def a factor though there probably isn’t many codes/countries that get apathy from being successful lol
Thankfully the English RL fans haven’t given up despite 46years of disappointment!
