Feels like 'small stadium syndrome' is hurting the opener.... Unfortunate reality it seems with Rugby League that it is easier to get 30K in a 60K+ venue, than 30K in a 30K venue...

It's almost like everyone switches off and thinks that it will just sell on its own.

Anyway interesting to see the reconfiguration of what is and isn't on sale in Melbourne. The Western Upper is gone, which either means what was available was quickly snapped up or they are really trying to force all remaining sales into the other areas...

In the lower bowl, only Bays 37 & 14 are bare, the rest are around 70%+ sold... Some of the Eastern Upper is concerning but as everyone has mentioned, there is still time...

Things that are still in our favour for this game include:

- Not all Corporate Hospitality tickets for the event have been printed yet. These naturally will bump up the PAX once printed.
- Tickets for Travel Packages are for the Western side of the ground, so this plus the corporate hospitality & sponsors tickets may mean we have already a reasonable amount of seats already allocated on this side, which takes some pressure off.

Anyway, onto more encouraging sales, we're down to just over 1,700 seats left for PNG v Wales.

Wow, they made some of the top halves of the Upper Eastern Bays into Category C seating...

Those tickets are $45 compared to the $140 for the front half of those Bays.

Incredibly annoyed, as would everyone who bought full price tickets in those Bays. I mean there are not many Category C seats now available, and they'll be snapped up because they are an absolute bargain.

@yakstorm , I would assume they have simply removed the Upper Western from sale, as they were not moving at all.

That's great news, at least they are reacting to it and not just sitting on their hands doing nothing....

They have also changed some of the Cat A to Cat C for the Kiwis vs Samoa game too..

I should have waited one day and saved myself the $95, haha.

But yes, I agree. I don't really mind having paid extra, and I would much rather they get the stadium full by any means necessary.

As an aside, I wonder how many English fans will be in attendance?

Awesome Burns! Great attitude man, you put the World Cup above yourself.

I just wish the organising committee could reimburse you somehow like a meeet and greet the players after the game or vip tickets..

So people were worried about a half full MCG when what we are going to get is a half full AAMI Park which is 100x worse. At least if you think big it appears to the wider public that it is a bigger event. How can a World Cup game in the same city draw 16k less than the same game in 2008 - with the opening/ceremony throw in. Pretty shambolic.

Wonder what the ticket sales are now with some reasonable pricing adjustments? $45 is a big drop for what were originally $140 seats. I'm glad they have rectified the price issue however seems to be a recurring problem with rugby league. Instead of inviting the rapid sellout they tend to price gouge first and then retreat in price when its failed.

This is the kind of thing the RFL constantly do with their 'big' games. They want people to buy tickets early and then panic later on and reduce the price, pissing off the people who have paid full price. I've been burnt several times but I'm still dumb enough to go back for more. I'm so dumb I paid full price for NZ v Samoa tickets.

If 16,000 tickets have been sold for the opener next week it's because prices are too high.
I bought may tickets on August 14, my PAX was 7,888. So in over 2 months they have shifted 8,000 tickets......hello.
Basic seats behind the ingoal have cost me $85 each.

Not that many I would imagine. There wasn’t a lot for the Samoa game and the bay for the Lebanon game doesn’t look very big.
Plus if you’re an expat from outside the English heartlands living in Victoria it’s unliekly you have been converted to the sport.

I'm happy with flexible ticket pricing. It's something that should be done far more. Pay early, get your favoured seat. Pay late, maybe cheaper but risk missing out.
Sticking stubbornly to overpriced seats out of fairness is a great way to not sell tickets.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how many Poms are there on Friday. Regarding the Samoa game, are you referring to expats or travelling supporters when you say there wasn't a lot there?

Well expats I would assume. Is there a lot coming over?

Serious question. How come Melbourne can attract 80,000+ for a SoO game yet we appear to be struggling when it's Australia playing?
State of Origin is an event for Victorians, unfortunately tests for them are not. State of Origin is the biggest annual sporting event in Australia.

Taking these with a pinch of salt considering the source is in Bradford and the pax numbers previously reported...

Who tells the Melbourne sporting public this? Are more than 50% of the people who turned up for SoO so clued up that they'd happily give the RLWC a swerve?
The NRL media tells the very large national audience that tunes in to State of Origin each year that it is the pinnacle of the game unfortunately. When the game treats internationals with respect, so will the fans. The Kangaroos are one of the most historic national sporting teams in the country, they should be a national icon but the ARLC do not lift one finger to promote them and their rich history
