Having just paid $140, I don’t mind? I get that it is the Opening Match, and has with it the all the pomp that goes with it. Sure the Opening Ceremomy won’t be anything that special, but I understand why it should be more expensive than any of the regular pool matches.
I will be disappointed if this match doesn’t get the highest attendance of any league game held at AAMI Park.
I agree. It’s a World Cup game - won’t be played again in Australia for at least 12 years! Am I right? It’s worth it, I’d go but I’m in Sydney
The highest priced tickets in 2013 were £99 - the opener, SFs and Final were priced at this so about $165. They sold well for the opener and were sold out for the games at Wembley and Manchester.

Me too Diehard. Was a great night. Ridiculous that there were 7000 spare seats. I wonder if PNG do OK in the cup whether fans would attend a mid year Test between the Kangaroos and PNG as a breath of fresh air. Maybe fans are sick of the same old Oz v Kiwi scenario..
I think fans will give internationals importance if the game gives them importance. PNG playing once every few years, non event. PNG playing annually, visible on our screens 3 or 4 times a year, fans following their progress and getting to know players - then we'd pay to watch,
not if they have 40 points put on them each time. though agree, totally over Aus v NZ.
The Upper Easter side and Northern bays are now selling as 'every second row', as the more minnow nations have sold. I guess that want to 'fill the bays' for all intents and purposes for the TV audience.
I mean, yikes. Seems like they have conceded defeat in aiming for a sell out and now want to mitigate as much as possible to a (maybe) low 20,000 crowd?
So like i have said early on i think they have over priced the Aus vs Eng game.
What i have done is converted hopefully all the games for the most expensive seat (sitting on half way) into NZ Dollars to give an indication:
Aus vs Eng $156
PNG vs Wales $54
NZ vs Samoa $52
Fiji vs USA $46
Scotland vs Tonga, Ireland vs Italy (only Cat B left) $34
France vs Lebanon 46
Aus vs France $80
NZ vs Scotland $50
Samoa vs Tonga $40
England vs Lebanon $57
PNG vs Ireland $54
Italy vs USA, Fiji vs Wales $46
Fiji vs Italy $46
NZ vs Tonga $50
PNG vs USA $54
Samoa vs Scotland $46
Australia vs Lebanon $80
Wales vs Ireland, England vs France $60
Qtr Final 1 Darwin $72
Qtr Final 2 Chch $55
Qtr Final 3 Wellington $65
Qtr Final 4 Melbourne $61
Semi Final 1 Brisbane $95
Semi Final 2 Auckland $84
Final Brisbane $181
I understand the opening game will be potentially the toughest game for Australia until the final, but unless there is some amazing opening ceremony (which i have heard of nothing?) then i think it would have been better to drop the price and have a sold out ground which would generate arguably more interest for the tournament..
Instead we are on track for what looks like to maybe the ground at 2/3 full. I just dont think our World Cup is at a stage where we can afford to charge such a high price.
rugby league test matches have a perception of being 'lesser' than state of origin.Serious question. How come Melbourne can attract 80,000+ for a SoO game yet we appear to be struggling when it's Australia playing?
