Not sure of the politics of this thread but for an international match in Melbourne the TV vision of the crowd was quite reasonable

Are you aware of the petition Steve Mascord has started! ? So far it has over 5400 signatures and mounting in 3 days. Its about rugby league not being recognised as a sport by the intetnational sports body 'Sports Accord' This non recognition provides the excuse for governments to not fund rugby league in countries all over the world. Sign it and do something good for the game for a change!
yeah
thatll solve all our problems lol

Great attitude. You won't even sign a petition on something that is clearly unfair and against rugby league. Mascord hasn't arranged this thinking nothing will come of it! You need to have a good look at yourself and do the right thing for a change. Page6 of Sports Accord thread by Taipan.

Cheers. It actually looked like there were more than that. But anyway, utterly pathetic on the part of the organisers that one third of the ground was empty!

Ignorant and poor comments aside. Do something useful and sign this worthy petition. The details to find it are on my previous post on this thread. Atm your ill found and ignorant comments are useless! Do some good for a change!

It did look good on tv but I'm sorry that figure is a little disappointing. A bit more than the 2014 clash but this is a world cup which had an expected crowd of somewhere between 25-28,000.

If we want this to be treated like a serious and profitable event they can't be flogging every ticket at $10 a pop. NRLGF and SOO tickets go for $400+

Can't claim this is the pinnacle of the game then refuse to pay 1/3rd of the price of the big events

How is that comparison fair? This is a damn near meaningless group stage match. The final of the RLWC would be much more comparable.

Since when is the price of tickets what determines the prestige of an event? If FIFA made the soccer World Cup final $20 to get in do you think people would suddenly think it's a nothing event?

What makes international league not the pinnacle of the game is because we don't treat it like it is, not because of ticket prices. Practically zero marketing and promotion, constantly talked down by people involved with the game and the media itself (with no one attempting to correct the bullshit). We play bugger all international matches. The clubs and the NRL do little to thing to help and even go so far as actively harming the international game.

Charging $1000 a ticket won't make this a prestigious event. We need to market it and promote it like the games worth a damn. We need the personalities in the game to acknowledge and maybe even talk the game up. We need to make international matches a more regular occurance and not a one off event that feels like it has no history.

What we needed tonight was a sellout crowd. Price the tickets accordingly, sell the match out in adavance and hype the shit out of it. Use what was a great match to build up the tournament.

Instead we tried to squeeze out every penny we could despite how much it would hurt the tournament. With 8K empty seats I doubt they made more money than they would have lowering the prices and selling the place out anyway.

It only holds 28. One third? There were some big patches on the corners empty, 22k felt about accurate being there looking around.

Not sure why people are dissapointed. It’s still a developing game in Victoria.

There were a shitload of poms though I have to admit.

Looked ok but 22.7k is a bit meh. Maybe a decent name act for the opening ceremony might have helped generate more interest in a non RL venue? Or maybe people had, heard the kangaroos were going to do some weird cringe worthy JT created welcome to country and decide $140 was too steep for such an experience.

Given the money cities have paid to host games there really is no excuse for gauging fans with off putting ticket prices.

I went tonight and was in level 3 East gate 3. I was lucky enough to be in between great girls from Swindon and Lyon (France) who I chatted to and had a good time with.

It was a definite shame though that we were looking out to empty seats.

Why couldn't we sell this game out? I love RL more than anything but I'm close to tears with how shittily we run the game. For f**ks sake can we have some leadership that sells out events and promotes our game to the best of its abilities?

I can actually imagine the time when I give up on RL because the administration is so shit. And that kills me.

Tbf fans have to take responsibility as well. There must be at least 17k storm rl fans in Melbourne. Until RL fans show some committment, get off their arses and get behind the sport then we can't whinge if the general public ignore the sport.

Aside from ticket price I'm not sure you can blame rl administration, the promotion for the WC has been pretty thorough.
