RLWC2017 Crowd Watch

I was at the Townsville game. It was disappointing. We said the game could have been played on the warm up ground behind the main field. Someone else said Mudgee would have been more appropriate..

This game was a very difficult sell but 5103 was a pathetic crowd. I was thinking 10k was attainable.

Well to be fair a good crowd is a bonus, these cities paid the money for these games upfront, it's about making money to fund the future of these countries. I just hope they use the money wisely :grimacing:

What do you expect, give Townsville a game with a bigger nation and they will sell the stadium out.

Didn’t Townsville get 20k plus for a Japanese RUWC game? The issue is the apathy of the local population mixed with an absolute inability to sell the matches by the organisational body. It’s pretty pathetic really and quite sad for the players.

Was against Fiji wasn't it? Pretty entertaining sides to watch at least. End of the day my family decided to not go to this game- instead they are traveling for the final that's it.

Fiji were playing today? They made the semis at the last two WCs and have a bunch of top stars in their team, apart from Australia, NZ and England this was statistically the best team you could've had. Real shame but thankfully the RLWC will not be in Australia again for a very long time.

Blame poor marketing and placement of games. It will be intriguing to see the turn up in Canberra today as this will lead into the Kangaroos v France game this Friday in Canberra. Hope the fans turn up with the enthusiasm and good numbers this great code deserves.

I know they paid money to host it but last nights crowd proves there are too many games in north qld. Hopefully the next game in Townsville draws better.

The administrator who f**ked up the venues didn't hold onto his little empire, but then he wasn't a RL person anyway.

How much could two regional councils have possibly paid for these games? Can't be much.

Having 3 games in any place is too much, especially in a 28 game tournament. I know it's easy to use state governments as an excuse but the fact Canberra, Townsville and Cairns have over 30% of the tournament is ridiculous when you have decent stadiums in League towns completely missing out.

Adelaide, Newcastle, Gosford, Woolongong, Penrith, Bathurst, Mackay, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast etc should have all been considered before anywhere got a 3rd game.

Fearful for the England 2021 model as well who from memory have singled out 12 stadiums for 28+ games.

I wouldn’t be too concerned the vast majority of the stadiums are within a few hours of each other and are accessible to the majority of league fans in the country. It maybe a hassle but anyone with a car could get to every game, there’s just no way normal people in Sydney are going to townsville, cairns or Darwin
