RLWC2017 Crowd Watch

I am enjoying the World Cup. It was still a shit crowd and the wrong venue.
It will be interesting what the double header in Cairns will get. If its a good crowd then perhaps they should have had a double header first up in Townsville then the stand alone match next, if that's how it had to be. The good experience of the double header may have perhaps pushed more sales of the single match.

Will be interesting to see if there is a good crowd in Cairns today & what follows for the single match in a couple of weeks?

Blame poor marketing and placement of games. It will be intriguing to see the turn up in Canberra today as this will lead into the Kangaroos v France game this Friday in Canberra. Hope the fans turn up with the enthusiasm and good numbers this great code deserves.

I don't think you can blame marketing. I very much doubt you could be a rugby league fan at any of the venue cities and not know who and when games are being played.

Correct. Channel 7 Townsville plus local newspapers have been plastering the RLWC teams like the USA all week in the news leading up to the game.

Crap crowd in Townsville, one has to admit. The guy who organised the initial venues resigned and left the remainder to Andrew Hill.He no doubt had to make do with decisions already made.Fiji would have been better placed at the GC .
On the bright side just watched the Offsiders, and Richard Hinds was very pro RLWC,stating 14 teams was a good number ,that he liked the colour and passion of those involved.Massoud or El Taliban (as he is known by a few),works also for 7,was naturally pro the RLWC ,and also got stuck into the police announcement(on gambling/drugs/ladies of the night) on the eve of the RLWC Opener as being a PR stunt, taking away from the good publicity. He also noted 12 months a go they police did a similar trick prior to an SSO match.
As for Kelly(I'm an AFL boot licker) Underwood, kept up with the how can the RLWC sustain a 5 week tournament?
Moderator Whately just ponced on as per usual, hoping for some anti rl responses, and getting few.

That's the most positive (except wanting a 10 team RLWC) I've seen Massoud EVER. I see Whately abruptly finish the topic on corruption & NRL when he knew it wasn't going the way he had hoped for LOL

I thought Fiji v USA was a good call for Townsville. I always got the impression there was a decent Fijian community up there? Plus isn't there a link with the US military? Or am I thinking of Darwin.

Plus Saturday night is Townsville's best slot.

The problem is probably more competition in that there are just way too many games up north. I assume many who would've gone yesterday are going to other matches instead.

Shit crowd in Tvl but Seriously, what do people expect.

It’s the USA v fiji ffs.

If it was the Aus v England game up there it would have been 26.5k, which 4k more than Melbourne for the same game friday night.

Marketing or poor venue choice? The marketing is more to do with promoting reasons to go to what clearly would be an uncompetitive (not close) game. Attracting fans with a slant toward the uniqueness of the visiting teams and their relative cultures would be a start. If I initially heard that USA v FIJI was playing I would have thought this would be a carve up for Fiji. However if its put in a way that makes it a unique one off cultural experience and celebration of sport then I might contemplate lobbing up.

We expect more than 5000 people to attend a World Cup game. Australia playing a World Cup opener against England in f**king Townsvillle would be just as embarrassing as that pathetic crowd.

There would have been a full house in Tvl for same the opening game that was in Melbourne (26k v 22k) dickhead.

People in Tvl are not f**king stupid. Fiji v USA is a disgrace of a game to give to Tvl.

No dickhead. That 26,000 figure you made up. It's imaginary. And playing a major event in a regional city no one outside Australia has heard of would be laughable. The disgrace is that Townsville thinks it deserves big games when it treats the sport with contempt. Fiji v USA is exactly the level of game it deserves. And not even that after yesterday.

My f**king god you really are a spastic. You know what the last test/Oz game in Tvl got? 26.4k you stupid merkin. Oz v NZ in 2012 if you dont believe me, go and google it. And the tickets were priced through the roof and it still sold out. I know this because I went to the f**king game.

Treating the game with contempt, give me a break. The NRL there team has the 3rd highest crowd average in the whole comp and the 4th highest membership in the comp.

Giving the city a sub standard joke of a game like fiji v USA got exactly what it deserved.

And only 5000 showed up to support the international game. f**king backward tinpot shit hole. Rugby league heartland my arse. Bristol and Wrexham got more in 2013. The f**king arrogance of inbred f**ks up there thinking they deserve big games. Souffs have the biggest membership. I guess they should have played the World Cup final at Redfern. Organisers should have known that shit hole wouldn't suppoet the game after only getting 16k for a Kangaroos game in 2008. And half the fans then would have been supporting PNG.
