I just watched the 0900 Sky News Australia bulletin and the newsreader mentioned how much sport was happening today, including the RLWC and cricket. He quipped "who needs domestic sport when you have international competition" and then threw to the sports report. Here is the order of reports:

2018 FIFA WC draw
A League overnight
Some EPL drama
2nd Ashes Test
Womens yawnion 7s win
Quick rundown of sports on today including cricket andd no mention of RLWC

And these arseholes have the hide to have a League channel..

This lack if coverage isn't by chance. It's very deliberate. Other codes having a world cup final Australia with Australia playing would absolutely be featured in most news bulletins. Rugby league does not have (dare I say it) " the friends in high places" other codes use for publicising/informing the general public. This is a reality for this underated code and reflects its struggle to grow exponentially like the code deserves. Its a sophisticated way of controlling/limiting the progress of rugby league and that is reality until significant change in things like the elite private schools of the world accepting/allowing rugby league as a sports option. By not having such acceptance the big end of town necessarily has employees that are only familiar with codes like union etc. This is where the issues start for rugby-league and this treatment of the RLWC by mainstream media reflects this ambivolence/disregard for rugby league. Until this barrier is broken rugby league will struggle as it has clearly done so especially internationally for many decades. No doubt its(RL) a superior code but these dudes know this but are paid to control/limit it by many of those "friends in high places" that don't have time for rugby-league.

I think that is a very accurate post Stallion. Spot on. It's unfair and frustrating but I think it's very true..

They don't rate the opposition though Stallion. One Aussie pundit was asked what chance do England have, he said minimal, adding that if they were to stand any chance the Burgess brothers, Widdop, Graham and all the NRL based English players have to step up. Not one Super League player mentioned, and he mentioned the two Burgess brothers despite the fact one isn't starting.

Don't rate the opposition and the NRL is the be all and end all. The RLWC is treated as a third tier tournament by Aussies behind State of Origin and NRL.

The final of RLWC17 lost its sparkle once the Pacific Island nations of Fiji and Tonga lost their respective semi-finals. It was those nations, plus Samoa, PNG and to a certain extent Lebanon who drew most peoples attention to the tournament. Not because fans expected them to win the cup, just that it was fun to watch them play. Now they have gone and international rugby league returns to normality and the same old teams play in the final, that fun has gone. Australia will win tonight, it all depends on by how much. What fun is there in watching the Kangaroos destroy the poms. It has happened too often for people to care much. The best thing for the international game is not for England not to keep the score close tonight, but to win.

RLWC is a third tier competition in comparison to the State of Origin and the NRL. But that should not be looked upon as being a negative. Because with the NRL we have the best league competition in the world and the State of Origin has the best 34 players in the world.

I have never read so much crap in my life. You and your conspiracy theories. You probably believe that man never set foot on the moon.

He does talk a lot of crap but he is right in that the lack of coverage is deliberate and based on the decisions of about 30 misinformed people in total (if that). Editorial level people in a handful of media organisations. There is simply no doubt about that.

How embarassing for those players! The organisers have misread the market and set the game back in the eyes of many neutral fans. As a loyal fan of the code Im disgusted at the empty seats around the ground for a world cup final. Shame on the admistrators, marketers and the idiots that supported the high priced ticketing.

Utter bollocks. You may think SoO is the top of the tree but the rest of the world doesn't. There's a big wide world out there.
The best Poms would struggle to play SOO. Hodgson would be Blues 'hooker, that's just about it. Walmsley, Widdop and Macgilvary, wouldn't give you two bob for the rest, including all the Burgii with hands lik feet. Whitehead's alright , Hill's not bad and Roby could have been good 5 yrs ago
Sorry.

Go on then I'll bite. Why would they struggle in Origin? It's no longer the event it used to be. Only you with a vested interest can't see past the end of your noses. Sorry. Are Queensland favourites again for 2018?

Doesn’t matter whether we're favorites or not. The Blues always talk themselves up but they still haven't got a spine to bless themselves with.

Dissagree with the player talent logic . The Kangaroos are the best players in Australia and are largely selected from the state series. This Kangaroo team only just held on in an epic game of football against a very galant and competitive English team. A very enjoyable and gripping final to watch despite the empty seats from ridiculous priced ticketing.

Its right no one came to see those teams except for the pacific teams after that couldn't give a rats who won. I know we had general excitement for Toa and our rivals nz and Tonga other than that the rest had no atmosphere.
